I don't mean to sound harsh, I just couldn't think of a better title!
That's the question really - there was a huge level of hype and suspense around EE's "live week" and the full episode, as well as the Lucy Beale reveal. Maybe as more of an EE and EM fan (nowadays) I've missed the hype, but I haven't seen much excitement on here.

Have Corrie maybe made a mistake by not getting huge storylines ready? Are they not attracting the right audience?

not really considering SB has literally told us every last thing that happens in the episode :/ maybe if he was more secretive like DTC was with EE: Live week where we were guessing after every last episode maybe it would generate more excitement!.

Not particularly. The 'big' showdown between Callum & David doesn't seem exciting since the last 'showdown' between Carla & Tracy was just Carla shoving Tracy on a load of boxes & Tracy crying crocodile tears about how Rob was the love of her life. I doubt the live will be anything special other than the showdown & will just be another bog standard episode when Corrie did actually have the chance to make it a memorable episode.

In one word: No.

When the episode is to focus on Callum, Andrea and Lloyd - three characters I cannot stand, althought thankfully two of them are going.

Like jxbrenna said, we already know whats going to happen and Andrea being a big part of it isn't exactly something to look forward to.

I'd be more excited at the prospect of an anal probing with an electric cattle prod by a bunch of aliens tbh....

I haven't read the spoilers but no. I thought the BGT/fire week this year was alright in the end but I didn't have any faith in it beforehand. Corrie's watchable enough but in a "so bad, it's good" way so I don't really take the idea of a big, serious event/showdown as the live episode is purporting to be seriously.

Its probably a bit unfair to compare EE and Corrie's live efforts,EE was a whole week and for there big 30th Anniversary whilst this is a one off live episode that probably was forced on them by ITV bosses for there Anniversary.

Most of the Corrie cast could never act on stage. They can't do the 'live' thing.

I'll expect a lot of pauses and fluffed lines.

The only one to come out of it looking good last time was the guy who plays Norris.

Couldn't give a toss personally. If the acting is as woeful when the actors are filmed months in advance I can only imagine how bad they're gonna be live.

It'll see the back of some terrible characters though so probably worth watching just to make sure they actually go.

There was absolutely nothing that went wrong with Corrie's last live episode? In fact, the only soap that seems to have a problem with fluffed lines is EastEnders. Even Emmerdale's live episode was flawless.

You can tell the live episode is on the way though as for the first time this year, the plots feel like they're moving forward slightly. I'm personally not bothered about a live episode either way though. It seems they're starting to become as run of the mill as regular episodes now so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't start seeing something different for anniversaries after this one's over.

Not looking forward to it in the slightest.

In fact, the whole thing angers me as it's just another example of ITV using its biggest ever show as a pawn in a very sorry game of PR. The network couldn't care less about the show as long as it keeps churning out material to fill 3+ hours of scheduling each week.

Coronation Street should be treated with respect. I feel an analogy about geese and golden eggs coming on but I'll restrain myself ...

This is what struck me about some of the comments on this thread. Coronation Street's last live episode was only five years ago. People are talking like Corrie has never done a live episode before. Whether the cast are good stage actors or not, a high proportion of them have appeared in two live episodes since 2000 so have some experience. The older cast (Bill Roache, Eileen Derbyshire, Barbara Knox, Helen Worth, Sue Nicholls and to a lesser extent Michael Le Vell and Sally Dynevor) all cut their teeth in an era when everything was recorded as live. They are used to the pressure of having to deliver a performance on the spot.

Let's not forget that Coronation Street is the only soap with any real claim on doing live episodes. The Corrie live episodes in 2000 celebrated the show's 40th year and was done to celebrate the fact that the first episode had been broadcast live back in 1960. No other British TV soap has that kind of pedigree. All other live episodes are just headline grabbing.

It's impossible to gather any kind of excitement when there is hardly any on-screen build-up to it and the details that Stuart Blackburn has released don't exactly evoke interest.

That said, if the Platts kill Callum and cover it up then I'll be on board.

Not really.

I'll be watching though; wonder which cast members will be conspicuously absent this time?

Don't watch Corrie but this reaks of "lets copy Eastenders".
