An interesting read that most will agree with.

Let's hope the Hat takes this on board.

I've said it a trillion times but the whole production team needs a radical overhaul from the top down.

*sigh*

I agree, but...

"Deirdre Barlow’s funeral (something, remember, the writers had six months to prepare for) was a letdown, leaving many viewers unmoved compared with, say, the emotional sendoff of Betty Turpin in 2013."

Lol, Betty's sendoff was just as bad. No on-screen funeral for a start, and most of it just about Stella worrying about losing the pub (when they retconned history claiming Annie Walker owned it). Another chance for Phil Collinson to put his best mate into the forefront.

At least the aftermath of Deirdre's funeral was good, the scenes with the Barlows and also Bev and Audrey.

I thought this too callum. Betty's exit was atrocious.

They make a lot of good point's though.

However, I think the problems with CS are probably more fundamental than just concentrating on older characters and stop hiring famous non-actors!

The programe need a huge overhaul... As well as new producers and writers I'd not be adverse to something like dropping a plane on the Street and killing off around 10-15 characters.

The one thing it also needs (but the one thing that will never happen) is to have it''s episode's cut back to three time's a week - Something I've been saying here for years - But ITV will never do it.

The only way anyone will listen and pay attention is with viewing figures but while they still getting 6-7m and highest rated soap of The day then nothing will change coz that to them is a success so only you the audience can make that change for them

maybe because it still gets good viewing figures?

What a good article.

Carla’s gambling addiction should be powerfully reflecting her frenzied guilt but feels banal and forgettable, especially when coupled with some less than believable acting. (Carla’s mental state is portrayed by glassy-eyed staring, lip-biting and wine-gulping – not to mention frantic laptop-closing whenever another character enters a room.)
This comment is spot on and what's worrying AK is one of Corrie's better actors.

Another example:
The arrival of Sarah-Lou and her 15-year-old daughter Bethany after seven years living in Milan should have been a welcome change for the writers. But, yet again, no one bothered with the backstory and cast Lucy Fallon, who not only looks far too old for her part, but sounds as if she’s never even eaten a Cornetto, let alone become fluent in Italiano.
Bethany does look too old and the back story was never bothered with. That was bad. A few Italian words and the mention of spag bol and that was it!

Wonder if the writer of the article is a DS forum member!

What a poorly written article sounds like the "journalist" is bitter because he wasn't invited to the press conference last week.

Corrie dipped to 4.9 million last year because it was out of its usual slot and up against Strictly. Betty died in 2011 not 2013, how this guy made it as a "Journalist" when he can't get his facts right is laughable.

agree with this - casting of Bethany was another major fail - (not the actress's fault) but she is completely unbelievable playing the part of a 15 year old.

The excuse that she went to an international school was hilarious. She still wouldn't be talking broad manc. Kids pick up the accent they are brought up around at school and with friends to fit in. So unless it was an international school for kids from Manchester then it's just ridiculous she talks like she does.

The article was spot on most things, especially Carla's gambling addiction and hiring pop stars. But I disagree about Bethany, she's one of the better characters of late. And I am sick of hearing about the bloody Italian accent, she lived with her Manc mum and went to an expat school.

To be fair on Blackburn, Kieran Roberts needs to be shown the door as well, he's been at Corrie far too many years.

Why is Corrie on six times a week?? Even they cannot justify churning out so much crap on viewers.
