Corrie: Missing the Point
In order to boost ratings, Corrie have recently introduced the "Celebrity" Factor, as they do a lot in the States, with "Guest Spots"
Trouble is...... the Celebs can't ACT !!! It is just a cyncal ploy to boost viewing figures... What they need to do, to boost rating is: Get rid of the Exec Producer with his ridiculous & banal Storylines. Get rid of the Woodentop actors, who can't act either. Reduce transmission by a night or two, to give more time for each production. Stop introducing PC Gimmicks. I'm sure other have their own suggestions..... Corrie always was a bit Camp, but to take the programme camping !! Just a few of my thoughts at 5am !! |

Agreed stigid, they've had various famous people in guest roles or stints over the years but they were always proven actors - e.g. Ian McKellen, Nigel Havers. Now we've got Sarah Harding & Shayne Ward. Sarah Harding turned into a massive debacle & from what I saw she was a dreadful actress.
The problem isn't just the stunt celebrity castings though (although it is a worrying trend right now), quite a few people in the regular cast are giving mediocre performances at best. Part of that can be put down to lack of rehearsal time & some of the stuff they are expected to act out....I think award winning actors would struggle! So too many episodes per week & a below par writing team are also to blame. Look at poor Helen Worth who plays Gail - how could anyone convincingly act out the s*** she's given? They've turned her into a blithering simpleton. Back to casting, that is definitely a problem & again, not just the celebrity castings. CS used to have some fantastic actors & in the early days Tony Warren was insistent that they be genuine northerners. I don't know how accurate this is but in BBC4's 'The road to coronation street' he was against casting Bill Roache because he was from Derbyshire! Now we have a cast where barely anyone looks the age they are actually supposed to be, there's always at least one person with a very dodgy sounding accent (currently Robert, although of course the worst offender was Michelle Collins as Stella!!!!) and many people, particularly amongst the female cast seem to have been cast because they're pretty rather than having any acting talent. |

Paddy McGuiness was terrible, and it isn't that I dislike him normally. I enjoy Take Me Out.

It's like Dr Who. Back in the '60s and '70s, they had real actors in it.
Some classically trained and who were in Shakespeare. But since the late 1980s and more recently they're forever hiring z-rated comedians who thinks they're actors. Awful. It's like they get together and one says 'I can get you into Dr Who, if you want.' "But I can't act..." 'Doesn't matter.' |

I agree with others who say focus needs to shift to improving the current cast. I genuinely think it's a travesty what has happened to Helen Worth, watching old clips of Gail, she is unrecognizable as the dithering idiot she is painted as today, and whilst she might not exactly be Oscar worthy there have been times where she's acted her socks off and given us some amazing performances. What has she been reduced to? Folding Kylie's smalls as she witters on about the love of her life LES DENNIS?!!?!!?!?!? Another stunt casting that has done nothing for show. It has done more harm than good. Robert is another one, the actor is poor, I have seen him in countless things before and always said the same, and being forced to watch him on stage in the Bodyguard recently was utter torture. It seems absolutely ridiculous to consider that there was a time we had Ian McKellen and Stephanie Cole in the show and now we're supposed to get excited about Shayne Ward?!
MAKES ME SO ANGRY!!!!! |

I don't mind the introduction of celebs, some work some don't. Like her or loathe her Kym Marsh is definitely part of the fixtures and fittings now. Keith Duffy got off to a shakey start but improved to became a regular member of the cast. Sarah what's her name wasn't very good but was only there for 4 episodes anyway. Sir Ian didn't need to learn the ropes so fitted in straight away but was always going to be short term. And so on. For me, though, the latest, Paddy McGuiness is a huge mistake. Corrie have often done these little comedic, away from the set, stories but PM just spoils it for me. I know many will disagree with me but i don't just think he is unfunny, he strikes me as being an unpleasant person as well. Can't stand him!
I've got a feeling Ted Robbins will be OK though. |

Unless she leaves home and moves to Weatherfield. And sorry, but I've no idea who paddy mcwhatsit is. Though I gather he's 'famous' for a show I've never watched. |

But how old's Craig? I thought he was about 13, the same age as Faye. And the woman looks in her 20s at least.

Speaking of Craig, as was mentioned he looks in line to be getting a new attractive girlfriend.
Not wishing to insult the kid who plays Craig (he's a good actor) but how come all the 'uglies' in Corrie manage to bag all the sexy hot girls??? Chesney, Kirk, Gary, have all had their fair share of tasty 'crumpet'. Now Craig looks set to bed a sexy 22 year old brunette. It just wouldn't happen in real life. I should know!

I don't think Craig's love interest is particularly attractive. Also I wouldn't say Gary is ugly either.
And as regards Gary, he may not be ugly but he's hardly Catch of the Year and he has all the personality and humour of a dead fish. |

I suppose we should be grateful the writer had enough sense not to sign Sarah Harding on a 6 month contract.
Kym Marsh is alright, she's not fantastic but she can do some decent stuff when it comes to the crunch (Liam's death etc) besides there is a hell of a lot worse 'acting' on the street. |

Roy Hudd was in it years ago as an undertaker, Archie Shuttleworth. He was brilliant.
As for Paddy McGinnis, he strikes me as a very unpleasant big head, a bit out of the mould of Danny Dyer. I watched about 5 minutes of his nasty show and my thoughts on him is no Likey, no lightey dreadful. Peter Kay was embarrassing as well. But the worst one was Norman Wisdom, painful to watch. |
