What's the producers reasoning behind cutting the young cast right down
He is definitely wants to make soap primarily a middle aged cast it seems.
Even a few young people left seem to rarely feature Nancy and tamwar just drift along going nowhere likewise Lee and Whitney. Ben and abi are quite prominent although Paul seems mainly a passing through character. I suppose Stacey and when she returns Lauren will be the lead 20 something's. Kush and shabnam I suppose are 30s characters another lacking group. The cast does seem heavy with the over 40s though |

With Lola and now Cindy both gone I think he will add a new 18th year old girl by the name of Courtney Mitchell to the mix very very soon.

Cindy was one of the only good young characters, so i am hoping she left rather than axed.

watch hollyoaks instead then, we really dont need two teen soaps with model agency 'actors'
The axe might have fallen a little heavily but you cant really have single teen isolated characters, they need people to interact with, or u end up with characters like Fatboy who just pop up every now and then with no real friends or connections or places to live. |

We only positively know Lola was axed...and that was after a year of the character not being on screen much
Liam and Cindy may both have left themeselves as neither have been sidelined at all That said Whitney seems in the firing line |

Any decent producer with a good set of writers under him can and should be able to produce decent watchable drama, with good storylines for his cast of characters, this is not the case with DTC, he a bit of a one hit wonder, he favors long burning storylines with copious amounts of block storytelling which is really dragging this show down, maybe he saw no future in Lola, Liam and Cindy but it doesn't mean they didn't have one, problem is he took no time invest, he want his characters and creations to come first, problem is only about 60% of them are working, there was other characters who are deadwood that could of been axed.

He did say in an interview that he wanted us to see the young characters through the eyes of the older characters, not vice versa, so I'm not surprised that he is having a cut down.

The teenagers dominated the show 2 years ago so maybe DTC wants to utilise the older characters more? But it's a shame that Cindy has left now. I'm sure they will introduce more new teens soon. Claudette does have foster children so we'll probably see them soon.

He'll bring in a family of young ethnic characters I suspect. He's clearing out the payroll to afford it.

To be fair he's brought in/returned Johnny, Lee, Nancy, Paul, Ben, Dean, Kush, Stacey, Shabnam. And he pushed Lauren and Abi forward quite a bit.

It's the removal of teenagers folks are talking about not 20+.
If DTC wanted rid of Liam he would have got rid when Bianca and Terry went Cindy's been quite front faced in recent months so im guessing she quit at the end of her contract as well |

As much as the teen dominated era was a pain, there needs to be a balance and its quite sad to see no solid friendship groups amongst the teens anymore as I really liked those. I guess Jay/Abi/Ben still exists but I dont see much of a future with that one. Getting rid of the younger teens is also annoying because these people are the future of the square and their families- what ever happened to the Ians, Sonias etc who grew up on the square and we saw them progress from child to adulthood? Sure they can come back, but just as easily they can be left in the past.
I wasnt very fond if LNs era but I did like how she rebuilt the Beales- the fifteen months have seen all the Beale kids bar Bobby leave the show which sets the family up quite badly in the future. Im still hoping that Lucy had a child during her year or so away from Walford although how the baby coukd be brought in remains to be seen |

As far as i can see Lola was the only one confirmed as axed.

Liam came back in July 2013 and could have had his contract renewed until this year, which means he may have still been under contract when Bianca and co left. This means he would have had to stay in Walford until about a year after he signed his contract (and he left in August, which would make sense were his contract signed in July) |

It's a shame he's got rid of all the teens. The Jay/Ben/Abi/Lola grouping was great just after Lexi was born but for no reason at all they ceased to have much to do with each other...their friendship group has been sacrificed for the Paul/Ben/Abi sex triangle. Even then we see more of Abi hanging around with Ma Mitchell than her boyfriend.
We are now left with the invisible Bex and no teens on the horizon until Bobby grows up. Edit: We do however have plenty of babies, and another on the way.

It's a shame really there are no teens. I remember watching older episodes of EE & seeing the likes of Sonia, Janine, Jamie, Zoe, Martin etc as teens & they would all hang around with eachother. Now, the teenage characters just pop up every so often.
It's also a shame that when teenage characters were brought into EE five or so years ago they didn't really take off. But that was presumably because of the poor acting & the fact the actors were used as eye candy more than anything. |
