Opera Mini and Opera Max

I had forgotten how good Opera as a browser was at saving data usage and really makes the internet usable on 2G most of the time.

However the new find appears to be Opera Max. That is a VPN that works with most apps (so.long as they are not SSL connections) and does the same Opera magic.

Just wondering if anyone else is as impressed as myself with the Opera magic or if it's just me?

Clearly those on massive data allowances and unlimited data don't need to worry about usage, but I think this could be a useful App for us with more modest data caps.

Can't get Opera Max on iPhones, but I've been using Opera Mini on my iPhone for ages and I think it's fantastic. Swiping up to kill the tabs and return to the speed dial screen is so natural and intuitive, i'm surprised apple haven't stolen the idea

While I think the Dolphin Browser is better overall for adblocking, I do think Opera Mini copes quite well as well. If a site tries to throw a pop-up at you, it'll just throw it in to a seperate tab which lets you continue browsing on the particular page.

The only downside (not really that I would want it to), but with so many apps and sites SSL Opera Max has no impact on them at all, so your data shrinkage is limited to normal website.

I really like the Opera Max idea as its just saving data all the time.

Extremely useful when on 2G.

Just keep in mind they have to pay for it somehow - probably by selling browsing habits etc. albeit "anonymised".

Mini Compresses more than Opera Mobile so for web browsing Mini cannot be beaten.
Apple will adopt app data compression in a few years time. Why bother when the product sells anyway ?
Firefox is better than Opera, with all its add-ons but for images there is no compresson available. But just maybe Opera Max works well with Firefox Mobile?
