Hope his got planning permission for his 'mast' lol
Attach it to a weighted base, based around some kind of trolley with wheels, then it becomes no different to the old trailer / caravan based signboards you see dotted along the sides of the motorways.

He's moaning about 8mbps? 8!?!?!

I have to deal with 1mbps at one site regularly. And there's no mobile signal either. I'd kill for 8.

Well, there's sometimes a sniff of EDGE and, even more rarely, 4G from a nearby mast. So I guess some kind of DIY job similar to this could work...

If you can get 8Mbps per line, I'd have thought bonded ADSL would be a nicer approach - 3 or 4 lines will get you something reasonable. No download limits or real variability in speeds, then...

So basically, all he is doing is using mobile broadband, just at the end of a very long cable/fibre to get the aerial to where the signal is. Plus he owns the land to do it.

For me to get 4G on Three, currently I'd have to run fibre all the way though my town centre out the other side for about 4 miles and then set up a tower there. Can't see the council being too pleased with that idea.
Oh I don't know. If you used a bare fibre and strung it over the rooftops and hedges, no one would see it!!
