VM Free WiFi access?
Zebb

Just received this via email, not sure what to make of it.

In September, we’re enabling lots of Virgin Media Super Hubs (including the one in your home) to create new WiFi areas across the UK. As a Virgin Media customer, you’ll be able to access them all for free. With our clever service, you can automatically connect to smooth, speedy WiFi, wherever it’s available.

Do you have to have a VM SIM?

No it'll be like BT Fon. Where your VM username and password will allow you to connect to other people's super hubs.

I doubt you have you have a Virgin SIM. You just have to have wifi access allowed on your superhub along with Internet with them to be able to access their WiFi hotspots wherever available. This is in direct comparison with what BT have been doing for years with their BT FON service.

Virgin Superhubs will soon start transmitting WiFi hotspots which other Virgin customers can use. These hotspots will have their own dedicated bandwidth, completely separate from your own connection. They're also planning to install WiFi in street cabinets.

There's a FAQ; http://store.virginmedia.com/discove...wifi/help.html

Lot's of do's and don't. I'll wait to see what others think.

My SuperHub is in Modem mode. Does this mean I can't use the free wifi, as they can't use my hub???

I asked that very question in the VM forum yesterday and was told by using the SH2 in modem mode automatically excludes you from the op-in so this at least is good news for me.

I got an email from Virgin saying I'd been accepted into the trial/pilot for their new hardware. Wonder if the new hardware will have this built in.
