Best android tablet around £150

Wanting to replace ipad Air 1 with a much cheaper android tablet. Ideally no more than £150

Nexus 7 seems to fit the bill perfectly but I think it's getting a little old now, so another option I'm considering is the Samsung 8 inch tab - has a great screen which suits me ideally as I want to be able to use it for sports streaming/ sky go / watching movies etc.

Anyone got either of these tabs and comment further? Or possibly suggest another tab?

tesco hudl 2?

I've got the Nexus 7 2013 and it still holds up very well... as you say though it is getting a bit old now but still good and lovely display.

What's the battery like on the nexus? How is it speed wise? Maybe a new model is due out soon

You might like to check this out. A little dearer but a full Windows 10 PC!

Screen resolution is absolutely fantastic, and still a very worthwhile device. But as you say, getting a little dated now. I may get a 10 inch in the near future.

I do like the nexus 7 but Google's lack of support for it (no update to android M I think? ) is putting me off. Perfect price point but will.be out of support is putting me off

Android L has hardly been a roaring success. I have had to turn off most of its improvements to make my battery last more tham half a day.

I have quite a few apps that do not work on L. Will M be any better?

With more densely compressed touch sensors on its gorgeous touchscreen, this stylish tablet lets you tap, write and sketch with incredible precision. Now you can control your tablet precisely, quickly, perfectly."

it might not be out yet.. the new model has an 8 core processor..

the current model is quad core.

Linx 10

I have one, and it's great. £149 and it runs full Windows 8.1, so will run any Windows programs as well as the Metro apps. Has micro SD card slot, HDMI out, good battery life.

I did the free upgrade to Windows 10 but on a tablet didn't like it. Windows 8.1, which I didn't like on my PC works great on a tablet. All the swipe gestures and navigation are fast and smooth. Even running two apps side by side, a feature the iPad has only just copied, is fast where on the iPad when you resize them they go fuzzy until you finish resizing.

I installed Chrome as the browser and it uses the Windows 8.1 swipe from left to go back a page feature, which works far better than IE, but the navigation buttons are a bit small. Haven't tried Firefox.

But I can certainly recommend it. Try it out in Currys and see what you think.

Although something like the Linx 10 is very good - not sure I'd say they were a good swap for an iPad Air.

Why are you wanting to change?

Good post regarding the Windows OS, Windows 10 on smaller Tablets is fairly poor, 8.1 suits Tablets nicely.

I'm still on KIt Kat 4.4.4, which works great.

To be honest, as an interim measure, the OP could do a lot worse than get one on e bay.

Because ios is slow and clunky on the Air 1 and it crashes a lot with JavaScript haeavy sites like guardian.com

For erm 'media streaming options' android is a much better solution so this year l will get my ios fix with the new iPhone and can still erm, 'stream' happily in an android tablet.

You shouldn't really be having those problems with a iPad Air 1 - its a powerful device, have you tried a factory restore?

This, iOS isn't even slow and clunky on my iPad 3, if anything it should be too smooth on an Air.
