Would love Ross to return but the fact is he's not acted for over 10 years and has other interests now. I don't think there was ever any chance of him returning for the live eps busy or not. At the moment he's filming a new series of extreme world and then he'll be editing it and then off filming the next series so when would he have the time? As for Susan tully well she doesn't act anymore so why not leave them in the past so there is no risk of destroying their characters which is what seems to happen when they return.

Spending £30 million of the publics money on two subpar middle-aged actors, who have done very little acting work in the past two decades, would only result in more people calling for the BBC licence fee to be axed

Looking at your profile, I see that you are 95, so I won't say anything unkind about your thoughts on what a third rate actress is worth.

I've never heard owt so daft!

How on earth could a publicly funded company (yes that's OUR money they're playing with!) justify that kind of pay to two ex-soap actors when there's other cuts happening across the board at the BBC? Not forgetting the immense pressure it's under from certain quarters (Daily Mail and the government in particular) who would love to see the end of the BBC altogether - imagine the ammunition that would give THEM?

I get you're frustrated OP but how exactly do you expect these two to improve the programme that much? Plus rather insultingly you're imagining that they can be bought - maybe they can't and they would still refuse to return?

SULLA was spot on when he said that it's the scripts and pace that need improving not money thrown at actors. I've never known so many 'secrets' going on for so long without coming to any kind of conclusion, it's like one step forward and two steps back every time. FGS Libby was brought back just to let us know that there's another secret out there! *roll eyes* That's what's frustrating me the most.

I'm sure Susan Tully might ponder acting again for £15 million

I don't even want to see the Mark Jnr storyline . Think about it , am American actor or someone playing American will drive us all mad within minutes with how much he sticks out like a sore thumb. Some secrets should stay secrets.

Yes to Grant coming back though , obviously not on a huge salary .

Tbh I'm sick to death of the licence fee argument. Eastenders gets a fraction of what the licence fee brings in. It's not the only programme on the BBC.

What does that even mean? Because of his accent? If Mark Jr would stand out, surely Aleks did? And Masood and Zainab? And Saeed and Naima? And Jake Stone?

I don't think just because he would be culturally American he would drive people nuts. A good character is a good character.

Perhaps, perhaps not. Money isn't the be and and end all for some people.

Mind you, I'll play Michelle Fowler for £15 million

Got to agree, I have no interest in Mark Jnr at all. He'll be an all-American boy into baseball or whatever and nothing like an east end lad! You're right, he'd stick out like a sore thumb!

But yes, I too would like to see Grant back at some point, even just for a guest stint like last time. On the live programme when Phil was furtively leaving to meet someone I had my fingers crossed it was Grant ... could have knocked me down with a feather when I saw Kathy!

They're worth nowhere near that much! People get too sentimental about characters/actors who left ages ago, moreso if those actors are grumpy about ever returning. People seem hell bent on this whole "bring back xyz" thing.

15 million! I don't think money is the issue. I also like to believe it's not just a case of them not acting anymore.

Have we ever heard a producer talk excitedly about the characters and what they'd like to do with them? Maybe they've been approached separately at different times in the past. I wonder if a producer has ever got them in the same room and explained how they'd like to work the Mark Fowler story. A lot of actors turn down returning to the show because they don't believe they'll be given anything worthwhile.

Yeah as if the powers that be are going to waste a very huge amount of money on two actors just for the pleasures of the OP..do you think that the producers would randomly read the contents of this forum and attempt to accomplish the task on the say so of a forum member.

I might be coming of as nit picking but i am just being realistic.

Wow lol 😁 -This certainly puts my thread on paying Susan Tully £400,000 -500,000 into the shade! I feel like I was making a cheapskate suggestion! 😉

Susan no longer acts and probably does not feel comfortable in front of camera any more. She won't return even if she was offered 100 million

WHAT??? No way should they or would they offer that much for them to return!

I honestly believe the character of Michelle should be recast and should have been years ago!

Ross would come back if the right storyline was given and he didn't have other commitments.

You do know that the entire annual budget for EE is only about 30 million don't you? So that would be split between then with no money for any writers, directors, other cast, wardrobe, cameras, camera operators, lighting, sets etc, etc, etc.

Do you suggest that Ross Kenp and Susan Tully just improvise 200 hours of tv a year whilst filming themselves - selfie style!

Errr no. No one is bigger than the show. It will survive without them like it has been doing.

Cheaper to stalk them with camcorders like that Eddie Murphy film 'Bowfinger'!

Just realised how Olde this thread is and that i've already gone on about it being the whole budget 2 months ago.

Kirkwood is right, my attention span is getting shorter!

If they want to bring back Michelle Fowler why not just recast. Susan Tully won't return and I don't see a recast being an issue for most viewers as she has been gone for so long. I am sure they can find a good actor to take over from Susan just as they did for Martin Fowler.

Grant will always be Ross Kemp and that cannot be changed but there is a chance that Ross might return maybe for a brief stint
