Least it's not Chris De Burgh.

They've got to put him with Kristina haven't they?

Wholesome, saintly, nice guy from Ireland Vs The Russian Minx!

Will be worth the comedy value alone.

Somebody should do a mock up of how they'd look, LOL!

He'll go a long way, methinks. He's very popular with women of a certain age and he's a lovely person who will get a huge sympathy vote when the CRH is nasty to him (I could see Craig making him cry TBH)

Please God no, not wee Daniel from Donegal - as if the line up wasn't poor enough

Edit- has Cowell paid someone to sabotage the show this year??? They're doing a great job😂

My idea of HELL. Weird creepy man. Hoping he does himself an injury and leaves quickly.

Odd way of describing him/ Are you not used to the Irish?

He is utterly harmless and actually very nice, if dull.

What does "are you not used to the Irish" mean???
I'm Irish and I can't stand him either

How so ?
He's soppy and cheesy but never been weird or creepy at all that I'm aware . Hardly Jimmy Saville or Gary Glitter .

Just got in and pressed the BBC red button for the info. Didn't see that one at all, at all.
If he is still there for the Halloween special they will be able to recreate a scene from the Eion McLove episode of Father Ted.
Thriller with rabid grannies.

He could win it! He seems quite light on his feet and has a bit of rhythm when he performs at his concerts

Isn't he about 85?

And somehow, I'm struggling to tell him apart from Peter Andre.

Oh joy.

I've seen him in concert and he certainly dances a bit. As has been said, he's pretty light on his feet. And he won't be short of votes as he's got a lot of hard core fans.

I'm getting Aled Jones vibes. Sexless but surprisingly good at the Samba.

I wasn't expecting that at all Daniel O'Donnell, that will be the second Irish contestant to take part in the show, two years in row.

I can honestly imagine that Brendan O'Carroll, whose wife took part last year, will end up making a reference of some kind to him on this year's Christmas special of Mrs Brown's Boys. I would be very surprised if he didn't. After all, both are really big fans of the show and I do seem to remember Tristan McManus making a guest appearance in an obvious reference to his Strictly partner.

Good lord. He reminds me of one of our rightwing presidential nominees in the current circus going on over here:

I am a woman of a certain age and sincerely hope he is first out. I have never liked his soulful dreary singing and it was compounded by a story I was told when staying in Dublin on the last evening of our Irish holiday a few years back.

There were several people on a coach trip to see him in one of his so called "tea parties" which takes place in a huge marquee in the depths of the Irish countryside. These people who were from the Midlands travelled by coach to the ferry terminal at Holyhead and then onto the ferry for Dun Laoghaire but the ferry had engine trouble so it had to go half speed which took an age. They arrived very late and then had to travel right across Ireland to their hotel, feeling very weary.

On the day of the concert, they again travelled a long way to the venue (about 60 miles) to this marquee where they were treated to a tea - this consisted of one cup of tea and a couple of biscuits! There were only Portaloos - about six in all for the thousand people or more in the tent.

All in all not a very pleasant experience - they were really put off him after that. Never again!

I've never been so surprised at a signing and haven't stopped smiling/giggling since I heard!

Having watched some YT clips of/about him posted on the main thread about this year's celebs, I will be buying a large cushion to hide behind when he's dancing Latin!

And I can't get over him being younger than me! I thought he was at least in his 60s
