Can't say I have either although the thin jumpers are fairly common on young lads around here.

Not an ideal rep from Ireland but he might do a better job at the dancing than Jennifer or Diarmuid did.

I'm confused at this statement, you do know that Jennifer wasn't the first Irish contestant on Strictly?

Apologies. I left a while ago and no doubt you've tidied them up a bit since then

True. He does hear music and is capable of laughing at himself. That helps.

But it's not as if we'll get any of the actually gorgeous ones who got away and now live in the US of A or London, now is it? I'm thinking Fassbender, Neeson, Rhys Meyers, Farrell or Gillen eh? No, of course not.

Wouldn't have kicked Nicky Byrne out of bed.

Nice work girl!

I used to buy loads of Gap stuff in London for my nephews and send it home - until Gap arrived in Dublin eventually

Now one of them models for Abercrombie & Fitch and I like to think I steered him in the right direction at an early age!

Gap is not and has never been big in Ireland.(Sadly)

It's only stores are concessions in Arnotts and Dundrum. So it would have been very special for you to send clothes home. Nice one.

Wow, not ro rain on your nephew's parade, ,but I absolutely loathe the ethos of AC&F..disgraceful company to work for.

I'd be glued to the screen if it were Liam Neeson!

Those are all big cheese international celebrities, though.
Not what you might call Strictly fodder. They'd not be happy with the pay cut for one.

I have followed Daniels career for many years and I hope he is on strictly for a good many weeks. He is a really lovely genuine person. I think he will do well on strictly, his ballroom dances should be good but even I am not sure about his tango, rumba etc. He will be able to laugh at himself which is a great quality. Some of you are quite cruel.

I think Daniel's too good to be true image has been the main reason he has got so much criticism over the years.

I was up there with the best of them cringing at every appearance he ever made. One year for the laugh myself and a friend decided to book tickets for his concert in Dublin just for the hell of it… to have a laugh basically. Well…..as we stood outside The Point Depot, as it was called at the time…. coach loads of ticket holders arrived. It was like the scene of a trip to the Lourdes shrine….. all of them over sixty five… there were crutches, wheelchairs, people being linked in !!! We were in stitches watching all this. Anyway… concert starts and the place was packed to the brim, and it's a huge concert venue. The music might not have been to my taste, but he gave it welly for over two solid hours and they were DEVOTED to him !! Standing ovations that went on forever.

Afterwards we were in the lobby… and a rope barrier was put up. . We had no idea what was going on. People started standing against the rope and out he comes…. after a two hour concert, perspiration dripping off him, and he did a meet and greet with everyone who wanted to say hello to him. I found myself quite impressed by the genuine warmth and interest he showed in everyone and he stood there conversing with people for at least forty five minutes.

Since then over the years it seems regardless of the old fashioned crooning he does, he is a hugely admired and loved person. He does tremendous charity work behind the scenes and his wife Majella is a wonderful person. She has done some very moving interviews in the last few years, in particular since she was diagnosed with breast cancer and I remember she even had her head shaved live on tv to help people in the same boat as her. She calls him her absolute rock and soulmate and how supportive he has been during her illness.

I think he will always get that reaction as being a cheesy old fashioned personality, but I'll be giving him a little cheer when the show beings. Oh he just has to get Kristina… I agree LOLOL. Would be tv gold.

I don't understand what you found so funny

I'm not a fan of Daniel although he has sung some beautiful duets especially with Mary Duff .

Reading a lot pf the posts on here makes you wonder why a lot are so cynical and mocking over someone who seems a decent, honest, good person .

I think we should wait and see what unfolds with Daniel . I believe a lot will be pleasently surprised . A lot depends on which pro he gets . I just hope he doesn't get Ola , she is far too serious .

Daniel is actually a very competent dancer. I don't think he is trained or anything like that but he does dance at his shows.

I hope he does well as i'm all for the more mature contestants.

I don't know much about him apart from the fact that he's a singer who isn't really mainstream. He's not my cup of tea as a singer but each to his own.

Much rather him that all the soap people. As someone who doesn't watch soaps I don't even know who they are although I know the show has to cater to a wide audience.

Last year we had Tim and although he couldn't dance he was a true gentleman and a bit of an eccentric rather than all fake tan and fake teeth (although I did also like Mark )

I couldn't agree more. I've said this already a few times . Keep it for non-appreciation thread .
There's been a bit too much cruel mockery and VERY dodgy implications on a few threads and it isn't funny or clever . It doesn't bode well for when the show actually begins . I don't fancy wading through nasty personal posts trying to figure out just what dancing point is being made other than that the person dislikes the celeb and always has done . Criticism is one thing but when it gets vicious it goes too far .

Daniel will be fine, he's used to working in front of live audiences and that's often what throws celebs . He won't win it but he'll give it a good go and I love his gentle Irish accent and banter .He'll last a few weeks unless he messes up mightily .

I agree, having quickly read the thread, there's quite a lot of mean-spirited comments. I actually think, in terms of a (potential) comedy signing, Daniel O'Donnell is a genius booking. He's probably been the most talked about signing so far too.
