Both John and Steve are weak players. Steve told Vanessa he can't vote for her when she was on the block, and John's never done anything for Steve despite Steve always showing interest in working with him. Likewise, Vanessa pushes and pushes for John to work with her and gets nothing back, so why's she so keen to keep him around?

DR is working her to save him/work with him, and then they'll make sure John backstabs her and gets her out later on. I've seen it coming for weeks.
