Thanks, I had too many scripts blocking navigation. I presume it is on COM7 as HD-capable equipment is required.

"We will be available to 70% of the UK population in most major cities and towns."

"In order to receive Talking Pictures TV you will need to be within coverage and be watching on a Freeview HD television or Freeview HD recorder."

I can't get this as I only have Virgin Media. It looks to be an interesting channel from what i've read about it.

What do Freeview viewers think of this channel now that they have it?

Does it show any old horror films?

We don't have it yet. It doesn't come until the 22nd. You need an HD TV to receive it, and will only reach 70% of homes anyway. That suggests very strongly that it will be on COM 7, which is on the main transmitters only. Being on that multiplex might mean that it is HD, but I will believe that when I see it. The old TV content that they rebroadcast (such as 'Dick Powell Theatre' from around 1960) couldn't possibly be, but the feature films would have been shot on 35mm, so there is hope there. Even so, as long as the picture quality is good (even in SD) it should be a worthwhile addition.

It will be in SD - if you follow the link above in the FAQs it says

"Are the films on Talking Pictures shown in HD?
Although Talking Pictures is not broadcast in HD it is broadcast from the HD multiplex so you need HD equipment to view it."

Talking Pictures TV is a great channel but its a shame it will only be available to 70% of households. Probably to do with the costs of getting on Freeview. Nevertheless for those who will receive it, some really great old movies. Showbiz tv also shows some classic tv but these days it seems to mostly show music, getting away from the original Bonanza Bonanza channel which was popular when it was on freeview.

Do l need to re-tune my TV to receive this new channel or is it going to appear on the launch day? I'm asking this because there is no channel 81 so far.

There is no place-holder as yet, someone is bound to post here and in the change log as soon as it appears. When it does, whether you need to retune depends on your equipment; some add channels automatically, some don't. HD receivers are far more likely to.

As a rule of thumb, if a channel isn't present, retune after midday on the day it launches and you'll pick it up (if you're within coverage).

Nothing yet so l suppose l have to re-tune which is a nuisance when it comes to my humax PVR because every time l have to do a re-scan, my scheduled recordings disappeared! I'm in the London area.

Just done a rescan of COM7 and it's already broadcasting, showing the film "Guilty?". This started at 11.45 and the next programme is listed at 13:35 so presumably they've launched with this film as starting at 1pm in the middle of a film wouldn't make much sense. Crystal Palace btw.

Yes COM 7 as expected, chanel 33 here from Sutton Coldfield.
Movie Guilty? in 4:3 Black & White alythough the "Renown Pictures" logo at the start was in colour.
An interesting addition, my Mum would like it, but her set doesn't do the HD multiplexes unfortunately.

Had to re-tune twice. First, received Talking Pictures but many HD channels disappeared! Second re-scan, all HD channels were back plus Talking Pictures.

Does anyone else have the same problem as me with scheduled recordings disappearing after a re-scan? I have a Humax T2000. The previous Humax 9300T kept the schedule after a re-scan.

On my Humax (9150T) I just select the mux I want (COM7 in this case) and scan for new channels - no scheduled recordings lost. Obviously the 9150T is not an HD receiver, so it's irrelevant in this case, but the same principle probably holds for the T2000.

Does anybody think that the picture quality of Talking Pictures on Freeview is much better than the Sky transmission?
