I think the difference between this and the 1980s (and some of the 1990s) clips was that many of the awful programmes in the 1980s were made with good intentions.
These were just knowingly awful creations of often cynical and exploitative (albeit often of people who should have known better) TV producers. |

The thing with escapologist Jonathan Goodwin is that I think it might be a very clever act and that he didn't really accidentally hang himself.
I've seen him on various shows over the years and I'm convinced that the 'going wrong' bits are actually intentional. It makes his act more exciting to think he might actually die and I think he knows this very well. |

The infamous Patrick Kielty and Richard Park moment in Fame Academy. Extremely awkward moment on live television with the two descending into a very bitter verbal squabble with each other. |

What show/channel was that on? I have no memory of it all, I certainly don't think it was the massive "event" TV they seemed to inferring...
![]() This show made out that he was some random rubbish act, like the famous clip of the guy on the talent show who couldn't escape from a sack he'd tied himself up in and needed the host to help him get out. On the contrary I suspect that he's actually very skilled at what he does and is pulling off a brilliant act in convincing people that he doesn't know what he's doing. There's no way that a channel is going to show somebody getting hanged on live TV. Just like they knew that Derren Brown wasn't going to blow his own brains out with the Russian Roulette stunt. |

I'm pretty certain this moment was shown as part of the 90's show a couple of weeks back or may have been a Top 20 reality show moments Channel 5 did. Trouble is Channel 5 does so many of these type of shows - they all start to merge into one after a while!

I don't think it was shown on that, as Fame Academy didn't exist until 2002.

The Patrick Kielty vs Richard Park was shown recently on the Top 20 shocking talent show moments from a few weeks back. I agree with most others that the 00s version was not as good as the 80s and 90s. There was a lot of stuff missing; for example Does anyone remember Back to Reality shown on Channel 5 (can't remember what year). It starred known people from reality shows.

![]() I think it was about 2003/2004 because it was hosted by a pre-Strictly Tess Daly (with Richard Bacon?) "Housemates" included Maureen Rees, Craig Philips, Rik Waller, James Hewitt, er, Ricardo from The Salon I think Craig won.

He's been on a few things over the years. Usually on Channel 4. I don't think he's ever presented as event television like Derren Brown.

Surprised they didn't also include Bobby Davro's belly flop on The Games.

Who remembers Fame Academy now that was bad
Fame Academy was better than XFactor. On Fame Academy the contestants would sometimes write their own songs. |
