Faulty iPhone 6 Plus camera replacement programme
gregrichards

I found out on the macrumors website that some iPhone 6 Plus phones have a faulty iSight rear camera and Apple has launched a service programme to get it fixed they might just replace the phones who knows.

My iPhone 6 plus is affected I'm taking it to the Genius Bar on Wednesday. Only some iPhone 6 Plus phones are affected no iPhone 6 phones have this fault.

You can enter your serial number at this Apple link to see if you are affected.

Bear in mind you'll only get the camera replaced if your phone is actually producing blurry photos.

If your camera is working fine they won't replace it 'just in case'.

A long term problem for Richard then in that whilst the camera on the Plus has been problematic since day 1, some report they simply fail fast.

At least Apple are now admitting things whilst in warranty.

My phone is being replaced as I have problems with battery drain as well as camera issues. My new phone is coming this week and I have to send my old one in or my card gets charged £739.

Good to see they are sorting your issues out. Apple support has always been excellent for me. Far better than others.

It is a 1 year warranty with Apple so there is a month or so left rather than the usual 13 months with competitors.

That fault, for some, has been well documented since near day 1.

As with all such replacement programs that Apple run it is in addition to the standard hardware warranty. They will replace a camera suffering from this fault on affected models for up to 3 years from the original retail sale of the device.

While it would be good to see longer standard hardware warranties Apple are very good at honouring thier consumer rights obligations in respect to items they have sold. If you've bought from Apple then year 2 warranty is essentially no quibble.

And they are commenting sooner. This one only took them 10 months to acknowledge.

Anyone who had a problem from day 1 could have had the device replaced, so not sure what your point is.

If someone had the issue on day one, and contacted Apple about it, I'm sure Apple would have replaced the phone under warranty.

So I'm not sure what your point is either.

So will the camera gets replaced or full mobile replacement?

If you take it into the Apple Store they just replace the camera module according to posters on macrumors.

Yep, looking at the teardown on iFixit the rear camera looks very easy to replace so I'd be surprised if they swapped the phone just for that.

As an early production fault I imagine those who actually noticed got a replacement phone.

Thee was also that report on the camera fault in the Mail last year, so some in the know would have checked theirs then.

Good point. You do need to actually know there is a fault. Although with the examples I've seen online, it would be very difficult not to see it.

Received my replacement phone today by UPS very happy with the service from Apple. If you say to Apple support on live chat that it is too much of an inconvenience to go to the Apple Store to get the phone fixed they may send you a new one to swap over but they do put a £739 holding charge on your credit card I case your old phone isn't returned on time or at all.

I typed in the serial of my iPhone 6 Plus and even though the camera is working perfect it states that my iPhone is eligible for the replacement program. Hmm!

It means that your phone is part of the batch that could develop this problem, so you'll be covered for up to 3 years from the purchase date if it does develop the problem.

Apparantly it is a problem with OIS, which compensates for camera shake, and which the non Plus lacks.
There are reviews out there that , at least in my reading, fail to see the difference between the 6 and Plus so it beggars the question 'did reviewers have models where OIS was not working' ?

Anyone with rock solid hands would not see it, and anyone with shaking hands might think it par for the course.
I'm wondering too how common a fault it is on other phones, my LG G2 having OIS, OIS quite a standard thing now on high end phones.

maybe you could link to the reviews to see if 'your reading' is similar to anyone else?

Also, surely if 'anyone with shaking hands' used the phone and didn't see an improvement to 'par for the course', that would immediately highlight a problem?

This got me thinking, how would a user with concerns ever get any peer feedback when, as we know, for some it is more important to blame the messenger of even the slightest slur.

This review spends too long telling you how wonderful the more basic non OIS camera is, going along the usual lines of 'its an iPhone so both cameras are great' effectively saying there is little difference so feel safe buying the non Plus.

http://m.imore.com/iphone-6-vs-iphon...ctually-better.

Yes, one could easily conclude that OIS was not actually working, yet most likely it is them massaging Apple's ego, as so often done.

If one bows before a few loud sad self-appointed guardians of Apple chastity, they get what they deserve. From life in general, not just from Apple Their customers are very loyal and believe they are given a quality and any problems are dealt with. Which isn't untrue. They are always doing it in the usual apple-esque hush hush way, but it gets done. So somebody must be checking on a negative feedback, too.

I would imagine they would feedback from someone who actually owns or uses the product whilst trying to avoid the obsessive anti-apple nonsense and endless conspiracy theories.

I finally got a good look at iPhone 6+, it's just Samsung I see lately. It was in hands of a tiny Japanese girl. I swear the phone was bigger than her And it IS a nice looking phone.

The replacement phone is working great it is taking clear photos and holding a charge well unlike the one which was returned. My mum will be getting it soon as my upgrade is due next month hopefully enough iPhone 6S plus phones will be made to cope with demand.
