Jess Glynne has reached number one with Don't Be So Hard on Yourself - her fifth single.
She now holds the joint record with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini for the most number one singles by a British female artist.
Speaking on The Official Chart with Greg James, Jess said she was close to tears.
"I'm very emotional today. I can't tell you how much it all means to me," she said.

Haven't seen anything about this on here but I think it's worthy of a thread. 5 number ones in two years is pretty remarkable. When I first heard of her, I thought she was going to be one of these people who would have some big hits as a feature and then her own solo stuff would kinda scrape the top ten before she fades away. I'm not usually a huge fan of her type of stuff but I actually like all her singles a lot and think she has a great voice. It has to be said, she's got lucky with the big features she's been given but she's as big a part of the success of those songs as anyone.

Just wanted to know what others thought of her - great talent or just someone who has been well promoted? In it for the long haul or just a short-term sensation who will fade away in a few years?

Don't follow the charts any more sp the only song of hers I've heard of is the one she did with Clean Bandit, and I only really know that cos it's on a compilation CD that gets played a fair bit at work. Catchy song, I like it.

She's infinitely more talented than the woman she shares no.1s the record with but so is the IKEA table I'm leaning on right now so that's not saying much.

Seriously though, I think all her songs are pretty catchy.

I really like her and her music. Especially the Clean Bandit collabs.

I'm a big fan of Jess. Somebody with a lot of talent who has produced some really catchy songs. It's just a shame there are people out there unhappy with Jess equalling the record due to three of her #1's being collaborations; a load of rubbish as far as I'm concerned as Jess is the lead vocalist on all of them, and unlike Cheryl, Jess can actually sing.

Good.

Cheryl got her 5 UK #1 singles all thanks to looks, marketing and autotune.

Jess Glynne is one of my favourite female singers around at the moment, and she has been really fortunate to have managed to feature on some massive hits.

To think if it wasn't for Band Aid 30, Real Love could well've been UK #1 that week instead so Jess would've broken Cheryl's record.

I've noticed on iTunes if you browse the album I Cry When I Laugh, the track Saddened Vanilla appears as album only for those who have yet to buy the entire album.

This suggests it's the next single and by doing this, the track will become available to download from the album when its released so it doesn't lose any individual sales at the moment - loads of people just cherry pick random songs off albums instead of buying the whole album.

I'd be more than happy to see Jess smash that UK chart record.

Jess Glynne got all her number 1's from one album. An INCREDIBLE feat by anyone's standards

I'm not necessarily a fan but I think Jess has a recognisable voice which helped make a number of collaboration singles sound a lot better. She is a good singer and many of these songs have catchy melodies and are good if not great pop songs.

Having 5 no 1s and not actually being a pop icon like Cheryl or Adele is an achievement but not entirely surprising in a pop world which no longer makes great pop music.

Rather her than Cheryl. I'm actually a fan of Jess, she's got a great voice.

This actually reminds me a bit of Katy Perry. Didn't she get 5 Number One singles in the US Chart from a single album a while back? Teenage Dream I think it was.

Can't take that away from her, she's done incredibly well and I love most of her songs - but I just find HER so meh. She doesn't really seem to have much of a personality. But she has a good voice.

At least she can sing and doesn't depend on one programme like a certain Ms Fernandez-Vasini.

Cheryl's a pop icon? To me she's more known for being on TV and just being a 'celeb' with the songs being sold on the back of that. She's more of a publicity phenomenon than anything else.

Jess Glynne isn't exactly a household name yet but practically everyone knows the Clean Bandit song and a lot of the other stuff gets big airplay. Her album is just out and she has some TV spots coming up so she's on the upward curve in terms of becoming a star.

Agreed.

She'll probably bag a sixth Number 1 before the year is out.

Well deserved as well she is a brilliant talent, 2014 was probably the best year of my life so a lot of her songs remind of last year as well so she brings happy memories also

I'm looking forward to seeing her live again she was great when she supported Clean Bandit. It's great Jess now has her own show and tour. I wonder who will be supporting.

I still buy CDs because I still prefer to venture the entire album. That and CD quality. Plus that lovely fresh printed fragrance. When I first heard "Hold My Hand" I had never heard of her back in May then decided to order her signed album.

As another person mentioned, I also don't follow the UK charts. I simply wouldn't have a clue. Sometimes a nice song catches my liking from the radio or iTunes radio or a huge viewed Youtube video pops up.

I've recently been enjoying, Rae Morris, echosmith, Jessie Ware, Jess Glynne and The Pierces.

I feel the same at the moment. She seems like flavour of the month.

Wish her well, though. She definitely has a better voice than Cheryl.

I agree completely. I'm sorry but imo Cheryl is no "pop icon" at all. She has made a few catchy singles but none of them particularly memorable for me (apart from perhaps Fight For This Love) and she ultimately does not have a brilliant voice; she has admitted it herself on numerous occasions. When I think of Cheryl, it's never as a singer, more as a TV personality/celeb. She's just fortunate that her records get a lot of airtime and attention, largely down to her X Factor role. Part of the appeal to Jess for me is that she isn't paraded all over the media yet has still managed success.

I think Jess has developed a very strong following on social media. The lyric video for her album track Gave Me Something is, imo, one of the best lyric videos I've seen on YouTube and it's brilliant to see Jess embracing her fans in such an effective way. It's definitely more effective than some eye catching but repetitive animated lyric video.

You both kinda miss the point. You might want to check what a pop icon is https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_icon because your comments illustrate the very difference I was suggesting.

Being a pop icon is about celebrity, public recognition and, indeed, being representative of a type. Cheryl is perfectly representative of a type of pop star whose celebrity for many far exceeds her talents. Although it can be Iconic status is not necessarily about excellence or credibility, it is about recognition or representativeness. Jess Glynne isn't well enough known to be a pop icon yet. She might never be.
