Did Phil just tell her or did she know beforehand?

Maybe she installed a camera and watched Phil every move

Phil told her. She covered for him and then asked him what was going on.

I'm not sure if the source is 100% reliable but I did see that the spoilers posted on EastEnders Ultra said:

"Phil (Steve McFadden) faces a new setback when cousin Ronnie (Samantha Womack) turns up and confronts him about Kathy, admitting she knows she is alive."

Unfortunately this wasnt what happened so I was a little disappointed since I had my hopes up

The scene where she coves for Phillth as soon as she walks in the door, makes me think she heard the argument over money while she was walking up to the door.

The spoilers initially implied that Ronnie already knew somehow and confronted Phil about it. There was even a picture of Ronnie and Phil out on the square which we didn't see. I preferred the way it was written last night. Ronnie already knowing as though it's easy information to come by would've been ridiculous. It would no doubt have come from Vincent and we don't need him involved.

She walked in on Sharon demanding to know why Phil was meeting "K" to give her a bag of money. Ronnie decided to cover for him and say it was to pay off someone blackmailing her about her killing Carl White so Phil would owe her an explanation.

I did watch, it's just the spoilers said Ronnie knew and I wasn't 100% sure they were wrong!

That scene with Ronnie learning everything proved what a nasty piece of work and hypocrite Ronnie has become. The way she ran down Kathy was like the pot calling the kettle black. Ronnie doesn't like people judging her because of her past mistakes. She should be doing the same with Kathy. Kathy making everyone think she is dead is really no different to her making Kat and Alfie think their child died.

I am not sure that is really all that comparable. When Ronnie kidnapped Tommy, she was in an iffy mental state at best. She had watched her long lost child die in her arms about a year previously, after that she had a miscarriage and after all that, when she finally had a baby it died on its first night home. Of course what she did was wrong but it is easy to see the serious lack of judgement here.

With Kathy, the only think that forced her decision was pure selfishness. She let both her sons (one of which was only 9 or 10) think she was dead for insurance money. Look how that turned out with Ben.

To be fair Kathy's situation hasn't been fully explained yet we have had one line from Phil and that's it.

If Kathy did willingly abandon Ben for money then of course that makes her a bad parent but Ben was supposed to be raised by Ian and she couldn't have foreseen Phil would treat him as badly as he has. Phil wasn't as vile as he is now when Kathy was on the square. Sure their marriage ended on a sour note but that was all to do with his alcoholism after Ben reminded him of his abusive relationship with Eric. Phil had genuine issues back then and couldn't help himself, he wasn't being a bully for the sake of it which is what he became later on. He wasn't in a bad place when Kathy left the show in 2000.

Ben almost killing Jordan and killing Heather could've been avoided if Phil had been a better parent. While Kathy is to blame for him ending up in Phil's care, Phil's parenting has a lot to do with the way Ben is now.
