This may be a dumb question as I'm not familiar with alternative OS systems - but what App Store do these use?
It's still normal Android, using all the standard Google apps, including the Play store.

I should perhaps update my comparison piece to better explain what Cyanogen is.

I think it's perhaps easy for some people to think of it as being more like Fire OS, or the custom OS on the Nook devices.

I wouldn't be quite so happy not to have access to the Play Store, Gmail etc. In fact, I doubt I'd have anything good to say about these phones then.

I'm off to IFA with Huawei next week so wonder what they'll be announcing. With the Honor 7 launched in the UK tomorrow night, there are SO many amazing phones on sale from £100-300 at the moment that I almost feel like shouting MUG to anyone that even dares consider buying something like a Galaxy S6 edge+.

Of course the S6 edge+ is a higher spec in every way than the Wileyfox Swift, but it's £700 more. SEVEN HUNDRED POUNDS. Yes, I've picked the 64GB model to emphasise my point, but it still doesn't look much better if you opt for the 32GB model instead!

I commend them for what they're doing. But they're competing against themselves.

I've used cyanogen mod 10.1 on an old HTC desire and it was really good. Lots of customisation and useful tweaks that you could do. You could even have a 6x6 grid for a pattern unlock (challenging).

I've made a few updates to my head to head to add some more information and screen shots.

If you don't wish to revisit (and boost my page views ) then basically;

- It's like I expected; one 4G/3G connection and one 2G connection and you must swap. So Three users are out of luck, unless you're happy to only have a 2G connection on the non-Three SIM.

- Also, as I expected and found with the Moto G, despite being stated in the specs that it supports cards up to 32GB, you can use larger cards. I've put a 128GB card in and it works perfectly.

This appears to be the endeavours of the same person who runs Kazam

Interestingly, all of the companies he is director of appear to be owned by holding companies registered in the Isle of Man...

Ah. Now that's interesting.

So he literally is competing against himself like I said above

Someone mentioned Kazam to me yesterday but I didn't twig at first.

Like Kazam, the big problem is getting Joe Public to know who the **** Wileyfox is, let alone whether to buy a Swift or Storm over something else.

That's going to require a fair few quid in marketing, and despite the fact that I feel like I've talked about little else for 48 hours now, I won't be 'promoting' Wileyfox any more than the rest of the tech media for that long. At some point the company will need to stand on its own feet.

Nevertheless, that's not necessarily a problem for us right now. Even if things don't work out, £129 (or even £199) isn't a lot of money to invest in something that should last as long as many potential customers would want the phone before changing to something else anyway. And if deciding to keep it longer, I am sure it will be just fine then too.

The Swift I got had just over 50% charge when I got it, which I topped up for a while to get it to about 65-70%, and by midnight it was down to 2% and with just over 4 hours screen on time.

I am very keen now to see how it performs when it has started from 100%, as it seems like the battery (2,500mAh) is going to be excellent for the Swift. I'm a little more concerned for the Storm (also 2,500mAh but with a bigger screen, more powerful SoC etc).

Also, I've never really used Cyanogen properly before - and certainly not recently. I am quite amazed at how much you can customise and all the extra little features it has baked in.

This alone could make the phones real winners, although from an industry perspective the company is probably going to struggle if it only sells the phones online. No high street presence is going to likely mean relatively few sales.

But certainly people on here know about them!
I guess they can take to social media and really sell the "British company" thing and of course the great price point may really swing a good few sales for them.

Swift is a good iPhone 6 / Moto G alternative whilst the Storm is a budget S6 or Plus.

It would have been a heck of wiley move to offer an OLED Hurricane too.

No, Google does not allow devices carrying the Play Store and their suite of apps to ship in a rooted state.

It was the same with the OnePlus One.

Cyanogen Inc is a commercial venture set up by some of the guys who were founders of the Cyanogenmod custom rom. They produce Cyanogen OS for phone manufacturers, the OnePlus One uses it for example. It looks similar to stock Android but offers many more features. It is up to the phone manufacturer to decide if they want Google certification and include the Google apps and Play Store.

Cyanogenmod is still going strong and is an open source rom that is built for devices to replace their existing version of Android (which could be Cyanogen OS). This comes prerooted. It offers very similar features to Cyanogen OS. Cyanogenmod does not include Google apps or the Play Store - you have to add them yourself.

Delayed due to delays in the units arriving in the UK. Put back to 30th, but they're giving everyone the extra screen protection insurance for free I believe.

No sign of it and I tried to register my interest, but the site looks not fully compatible with firefox, as I could not complete the form.

Thanks but it says temporarily out of stock. I'm beginning to doubt the existence of this product other than a marketing device.
