TalkTalk line rental Increase? |

TalkTalk line rental Increase?
Just been onto the talktalk website for a browse at their mobiles while I was looking i stumbled across the fibre broadband page and I noticed that underneath all the package prices it says +line rental at £17.70 have I missed something?

Edit: Ive just called letters are starting to be sent out today and will apply to all customers |

It's funny how they all hike line rental around the same time each year close to the same prices as BT, just marginally undercutting them. The wholesale price hasn't moved anything like the retail price so these companies cannot claim they are just passing on cost. If this was the energy sector the market dominators would be accused of price collusion and face the wrath of regulators.

Does anyone know if this will effect people who have the line rental saver for another few months?
I'm moving next month and this would be an ideal way to get out of the contract! |

Abso-bloody-lutely. They all get absolutely furious if you refuse to have line rental AND internet supply from them - which I do, just to annoy! Supplying both allows them to control the market completely and I find it infuriating. Not even plusnet does an internet-only deal. |

TalkTalk is losing vast numbers of customers because of its repeated data breaches, so now it's decided to extract even more money from those that remain. |

In January this year I paid the reduced rate line rental up front, I am now having terrible problems with my phone line, Talk Talk have been absolutely useless dealing with the problem, and I now want to change to Virgin cable, what I can't remember is if I signed a years contract with Talk Talk.
I appreciate I stand to lose my paid up front money but the situation is so bad I am past caring about it. Will I be able to change to Virgin do you think? |

I left TalkTalk for Virgin in July 2014 and had advance line rental with TT that expired in September 2014 and I got a rebate for the unused months however if it’s the first of the month when you give notice to quit you will lose all the money for that month. When changing to Virgin cable you don’t need a MAC code from TalkTalk so as soon as you know you’re not tied to TT you can sign up with Virgin straight away and that’s what I did and had two broadband systems running at the same time for a couple of weeks while the 30 day TT notice ran its course. |

Thanks Skytracer that is all very encouraging, it was only the line rental I paid up front, however will need to wait until my phone line is fixed as the cost of phoning TT on several occasions over the last week has cost me a fortune using my mobile....bless 'em.
But am definitely leaving them, have had enough of the poor service from them. |

Of course Talk Talk have not only increased their standard line rental, they've abandoned the discount they used to give for early bill settlement. |

I was originally with Tiscali that got absorbed into TalkTalk and have both landline rental and Broadband. My bill has just been raised from £27.70 to £30.45 per month. My original 18 months contract has long expired and despite them trying to get me to sign up to a new contract I've resisted for the past four and half years.
Can't make my mind up whether to move to another provider as all the prices seem similar. I'd never go back to BT who I was with for 26 years. Recently, had a problem for three days with no email service. TalkTalk sorted it out reasonably quickly but told me there would be no compensation for loss of email service because it was a complimentary service. Never realised that. |

They will cut your bill if you ask, or maybe throw in a boost or two for the same money.

They are also offering new 'fixed price plans', which are inclusive of line rental and are guaranteed not to increase in price for 18 months - this may be cheaper for some people but won't be for everyone, especially as any deals on boosts you got on your old plan will no longer be valid, and these plans don't include any landline calls as standard. If you sign up to one of these you get the remainder of your value line rental refunded. But you can get out of contract anyway by protesting the package price increases instituted last month. My advice with TalkTalk is to get through to loyalty, know your sums and what you're paying now, and negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. If you aren't getting anywhere hang up and try again - if you get through to someone in the UK you're lucky and can explain and blind them with figures until they cave. I'm getting fed up with the TalkTalk's continual sneaky price rises and their continual upselling attempts, but I can't fault them at all on service. BT would be right at the bottom of any list if I was going to change, but it only needs one efficient new provider to blow a huge hole in the market.
