I bought a little now tv box from asda £15

saw on the box 3 months ent free etc
thought Id give it a go .

Tried to sign in an get an account....
found that you have to start entering visa details as well !

At this point I dont want to enter those details,
looks like Im stuffed.....

( I may have to box it all up and return it to asda ! )

You can use it for the apps and the ondamand section without sending it back to asda.
The ondamand sections are BBC I player, ITV player etc.

You can sign up for 3 months and then cancel one of the passes your go. Just cancel 2 months in and give them 31 days notice then you won't get charged. Then you can keep the box as I mentioned above.

I top up with vouchers in the last month before they take a payment from my bank account. Works out cheaper too.

You have an online account and you click the button that says "cancel pass". That's all.

You can do this whenever you wish, 2 seconds after you activate the pass or 2 secs to midnight the day before the pass runs out it doesn't matter. Either way your pass will last until the very last day specified.

When you cancel they'll offer you a reduce price to stay as well. If you don't wish to take it you then click "no thanks" and its cancelled.

You are only charged if you don't cancel, then you pay a one month fee (6.99 for Entertainment, 9.99 for Movies) and your pass then rolls for an additional 30 days.

Your fears of cancelling are justified due to previous experiences with Sky. This seriously bad customer service is what has kicked off what is known today as cord cutting (people cutting the cord, or in this case binning the dish).

But Now TV is different, and it is as LOSG says, very easy to cancel.

Now TV may be owned by Sky, and it offers Sky content, but it is an SVOD (subscription video on-demand) service that follows the basic principles of Netflix.

This means there is no contract, no forced bundling, no forced time periods and the ability to easily cancel at any time.

You have three months free. The credit card is only used if you continue. Once you sign up and hand your credit card details over, you will not be charged anything, and you can cancel immediately from the Now TV Pass without any pressure or problems - and your 3 month pass will continue running to the end before stopping.

You will also have access to all the other free content (BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4 etc) without paying again, or even getting a nudge from Sky.

Now TV are amongst the good guys these days. I won't touch Sky with a barge poll, but I have no issue using Now TV.

Year, I guess they should have said you need to hand over credit card details. But since they are not actually charging you, then you are not really being duped.

It is your choice to not hand over credit card details over the Internet, and I am not in any way going to knock you for making this choice, but you are in the minority here.

Using a credit card over the Internet is the standard these days and in no way is it considered anything out of the ordinary.

It's a bit like if you don't want to fly because you don't trust airplanes. This is your choice, and there are other people with such fears, but the norm is that most people consider flying safe.

This is also why I wouldn't consider yourself being duped. The only person I actually know who doesn't use their credit card on the Internet would be my ageing mother. Bless her, but the very concept of the Internet is too much for her. Everyone else, and I mean everyone I know uses a credit card at some point on the Internet, so a company can't be considered duping someone if they don't take into account the small minority who have issues with the standard way of doing things.

If you really don't want to use this box, either hand it on as a gift (it makes a great gift and only cost you £15) (though keep in mind the 3month pass won't last forever), or take it back to the shop and ask for a refund.

To answer your question, yes, it brings in selected Sky channels via the Now TV Platform via your broadband Internet. This can be connected to your router by your home WiFi, but it can also use a direct Ethernet cable.

Maybe a good idea might be to get a pre paid credit card for internet use or open up a seperate bank account that issues visa debit cards? i did the later and i just simply transfer money from my main account to my online purchase bank account and use the visa debit card i got with second account to make online purchases. Nationwide and Barclays offer superb basic accounts which issue visa debit cards.

I would have thought that keeping passes updated on the account would stop the possibility of debiting amounts from the bank.

Still, NowTV is a heck of a lot better than having to deal with Sky. Still trying to pursuade my parents to chuck Sky and go back to Freeview and get NowTV as additional, seeing as my Mum likes to watch Sky 1 and Atlantic. Well, i say pursuade to get rid of, more like they want to get rid of it and it's a case of getting round to calling them to cancel.

That's one of the many things I hate about old-school pay-TV. They make it incredibly difficult to cancel. If you think Sky are bad though, you should see how hard it is for our American friends. Check out this attempt to cancel from Comcast! (This recording had already been going on for 10minutes before the poor guy pressed record).

The other reasons are ridiculous bundled packages, forcing customers to pay for a package they don't want in order to get another package they do.

The long-term contracts.

The high prices.

And a lot more.

It is so weird how Now TV is actually run by Sky since they are not doing any of those crazy things that Sky force from above.

But when I think of Sky being bad, BT is so much worse. They don't offer anything like Now TV and force their customers to even use their own broadband.

As do plusnet and talktalk, bt to their credit do offer BT Sport to people without BT broadband but it's pricey £19.99p/m i think they also have bt sport on virgin media which is bundled into vms xl tv pack.

I know they also provide it with a Sky package, but again that is bundling.

My interest is of course to access it from abroad, so I need BT Sport to be available via the Internet and without BT Broadband, but I suspect there are plenty of people in the UK who would like the same thing.

Oh sorry mate i thought you meant it was only available to bt customers, one way to get bt sport is to sign up for a sim deal £10p/m then you get bt sport lite (bt sport1) but for £5 extra you can upgrade to complete bt sport pack which is available online.
I don't think they sell it as standalone online though not sure as i have bt tv so it's included automatically for me.

I have a question. Why is there a bit of a delay on the NOW TV app when you stream it though chromecast. I mean the programs already start on sky. But there is a delay on the app for some channels lìke 5 mins.

Sky need to sort this out.

Not difficult to cancel at all, I done it a couple of times and had not problem

i remember phoning sky and telling thEM I wanted
to end the package subscription in 4 weeks time

they said.. you must phone in to cancel during the last 14 days

I said, come on , you re all computorised, cant you book it down to stop my contract in 4 weeks,

No .............. came the reply

So often, by some dodge or other Ive ended up paying for an extra month I did nt want .

Anyway my venture into Now TV has ended befor e its begun
they want you to join their web site before you get the free, 3 month trial ... but part of the signing in process is to hand over visa card details....

In this case though, it really is your loss now. I can understand reservations against Sky, but not here. You have three months free trial. No cost. No stress.

Yes, they ask for your credit card, but you can cancel your subscription the moment you sign up and your 3 months will continue without hassle.

Your choice of course, but it is your loss. Still, don't let it sit to waste, as there will be plenty of other people who would be really happy to have three months worth of Now TV Entertainment for free. Give it away as a gift to someone close to you.

Get a cashplus pre paid mastercard, you simply just put on the money you want on it then use that for online purchases etc, that way you're not giving anyone your main card details.

I have subscribed to Now TV movies once, and the entertainment package twice and subscribed with no difficult what so ever. Given them my debit card number did not bother me, this is me here and it did not bother me.

I have heard about trying to cancel Sky Tv, but this is not Sky Tv as such.
I have not use Now Tv for a while, in fact I have not realised they have change the UI until I saw it on a mates box a few weeks back. But in the winter I may subscribe to the Movies again.,
