It's become fashionable to say that "Sergeant Pepper" is overrated, but I can't agree with that at all. It's a fabulous, groundbreaking album, although I marginally prefer "Revolver".

Not a fan of the "White Album" I'm afraid. Too long and all over the place. For me anyway.

Oh, and I have a real soft spot for "A Hard Day's Night". Perfect pop.

I think Sgt Pepper is overrated though, if you are inclined to look at the numerous polls proclaiming it to be the greatest album of all time, which was often the case up until more recent years. That is an awful lot to live up to. As good as Sgt Pepper may be it is human nature when it is so highly regarded for some to look under the microscope as to whether it really is. In terms of the strength of the songs and overall consistency i would say that Revolver and, maybe Abbey Road are considerably superior, although for me Revolver is the clear winner in the all time best stakes. That may even be true including the various Beatles compilations too, because the songs work so well also in sequence. Maybe "I Want To Tell You" is slightly below the standard of the others, but i like the feel of that song all the same.

A Hard Day's Night. The first album by the Fabs to feature original material exclusively and the only album to feature only Lennon/McCartney compositions. I'll Be Back happens to be one of my top favourite songs of all-time.

Rubber Soul is my favourite Beatles album.

When I was growing up (listening to my dad's records) I definitely preferred the later albums but later on I really appreciated the early ones. Now it just depends on my mood or what stuff I have listened to more recently. For me they are all fab. I do also have a special liking for A Hard Day's Night. It has a great raw and spontaneous quality that must have been due to the crazy schedule they had at that time. Btw as a pedant point Help! does have a couple of covers but I know what you were getting at and agree.

I was also going to say how A Hard Day's Night is the only all Lennon/McCartney album too. It is also the most dominated by Lennon if Ian MacDonald is right in his breakdown of the writing specifics.

Thank you Alan Partridge. His other great one was that Wings were the band the Beatles could have been.

Rubber Soul for me, if I could only have one album to listen to for the rest of my life it would be Rubber Soul.
