I think that makes one of us. He sounds naff.

It's not bad at all actually. I'm from Yorkshire, it's clear he's lived here a bit. Have to say though, I tend to try not to sound so broad! Lighter accents always sound better to me, and I've never been a huge fan of how people around me in Sheffield sound.

There was a thread on DS, in general discussion recently about the worst accents in the UK. Sheffield or even any of the Yorkshire accents if I remember rightly, weren't on the list, but I do remember thinking most of the accents on the list can sound so nice if they're light.

For example, Cardiff, Newcastle, Birmingham and Liverpool and I think Belfast were on the list. They're all accents that can sound extremely attractive (to me) if the girl has a light accent. Made me think any accent is good if it's light. Off topic

Is he not putting it on? He's lived in Yorkshire for like 3 years, how would he develop a slight Yorkshire from that having lived in America all his life previous

A bit to show it off maybe, his natural accent is closer to a US one, but he's lived here for a bit and his boyfriend is from Yorkshire, so he's going to get a bit of that accent too.

I'm sure I'd be able to utter a few American phrases in a US accent if I'd lived there for 3 years! That's all he's doing really.

Actually, 3 years is quite a long time. My ex girlfriend learnt English in a year, and after a couple of years here, she was using Yorkshire phrases, despite being Swedish.

He's lived here five years actually - in Huddersfield apparently. I'm sorry, but I'm from Yorkshire, and I can definitely hear it.

Sometimes he does it for a laugh, and sometimes he's just picked up an English pronunciation of a word. Nowt wrong with that and pretty common with ex pat Americans who live here.
