" The kashrut extends to non-food products. Utensils like pots, pans, sinks, dishwashers, potholders and plates take on the status (fleishig, milshig, treyf or pareve) of the food they touch in the presence of heat. For example, a pan used to fry a hamburger or a pot used to make stew become fleishig. If the fleishig pot or pan is then used to boil milk, the kashrut has been violated. Similarly, a bowl previously used for chicken soup cannot be used for ice cream. When eating foods prepared away from home, Jews keeping kosher must ensure utensils have not been used to prepare non-kosher foods.

For this reason, most kosher households have at least two sets of dishes, one for meat and one for dairy. Cleaning is also important - separate dishpans, sponges, dish racks and dishwasher loads must be used for fleishig and milshig items"

Jenna's husband is Israeli and does not appear to me to be orthodox nor Hasidic. Recent converts seem keen and eager to fit in.

I was about to post something similar. A friend of mine has Nannied for several Jewish families ( some stricter than others) - in some houses there were two distinct sides to the kitchen and two colour coded sets of utensils and crockery - you cannot mix meat and dairy.

Well it's probably just so they know which stuff is which. It's easy to get confused when you have lots of people living together.

This is sort of a GIYF thread. I suppose I might be a bit older than many other posters; but I would have thought it was fairly common knowledge that strict kosher Jews have separate preparation areas, storage areas, cooking vessels and utensils for particular food groups. It's not a religious peculiarity that interferes with anyone else's life, as a rule; so I find it acceptable and inoffensive.

Then again, as an atheist, there are only a few religions that I'm fairly tolerant of. Judaism is one of them. Any belief system that produces such a productive, intellectual, artistic wealth is fine in my book.

I wouldn't stick Jenna Jameson in the 'strict kosher' bracket, would you?

Are you familiar with the expression 'none so pure as a reformed whore'? I remember in Sex and the City, when one of the characters converted to Judaism; she became obsessive about adherence to its strictures. It's been known to happen.

It rings a bell I think It gives them something to ground themselves after a life doing something they're not necessarily proud of.

Presumably at one stage, Jenna Jameson woke up and thought- I don't want to be Jenna Jameson anymore- the porn star, so they do this sort of radical leap in the other direction to get away from it, like they need some sort of authoritative structure in their lives.

Excellent post. I think that's exactly what it is. I was no Jenna Jameson at 19; but I wasn't anything I'd be proud of now and there were no cameras pointed at me. I think it's an interesting aspect of her personality and I have no problem with her anxious reaction to her fridge door being opened. I find it fascinating.

By the way, it's great to have such an interesting conversation on the BB board.

Thanks, you too. That’s kind of how I saw it as well. She went a bit overboard, but it’s perhaps one of the things in her life that really takes her out of being just, ‘the pornstar’. People like that tend to be more extreme with their beliefs in my experience, so the saying is pretty apt!

Jenna recently converted I'm surprised she's so strict. As for food being kept separate, I don't know how necessary it is really, depends how religious you are I suppose :/”

Actually quite often converted people are quite strict. Unlike most other religions before you are allowed to convert you have to study for at least a year. So quite often they are more strict than say someone like me who was born Jewish as they have to work hard to be "allowed" to convert.

Thanks for that.
I found it really interesting.

I agree.

That is such a good post.
Yesterday I said that she didn't respect her religion when she made her career choices.
Today I learned that this has been a very recent change in her life and I feel bad about what I said yesterday.

Isn't it?

My late father always said that I should make a point of learning something new every day. Its not even 9.30am and I've done it.

Finally ......there's an expression which is appropriate.

'There's none so righteous as the newly converted.'

(I can't believe I learned to much after reading a thread about Jenna Jameson. )

And a perfect set up for a great big fat row.. Its only a matter of time before someone puts the bacon away in the wrong fridge and all hell will break loose!
