As far as I am aware Jewish meat is slaughtered in an abattoir which has been approved for the purpose and in a manner which has also been approved. I understand it has to be killed by a single cut to the jugular with a knife that has been specially approved ( lots of approval involved isn't there? ) and the blood drained away. Blood is another forbidden food I think.

I wouldn't expect you (one) to be able to tell the difference by taste. Its more to do with rituals and so forth. But in the end beef is beef, kosher, halal or secular.

I'm a bit of a fan of the Jewish culture; mostly because most of the authors who have struck me dumb in my life - if they haven't been Irish, they've been Jewish. (I love quite a few English and Russian authors too).

Because of this, maybe, I thought kosher food rules were fairly widely known. It's based in religion, practicalities and tradition. It is - as so much in Judaism - identifiably logistic - and it's all about separating the food; having different preparation areas; cooking different food groups separately etc. It's all good by me.

Hi Patsy. Good to see you. I don't know that this is totally correct to be honest. I haven't made a study, I am just drawing on my general knowledge (which can go wonky). I am surprised we don't seem to have any actual Jewish posters on here. I was hoping someone ethnically Jewish at least would post.

It's my understanding that the rules that DO apply about vegetables are only enforced by orthodox (and there's certainly no way Jenna Jameson is that). Basically the orthodox (not tolerant people) believe that nobody who isn't Jewish can handle food and it still be kosher. But the rest of the Jews on the planet generally consider vegetables to be "safe" as long as there's no real risk of cross contamination with animals or animal byproducts which themselves may have broken the rules. So it's possible that someone might be obsessed with bugs in the vegetables, but unlikely in the "real world", where people have to be practical.

Well, she could be orthodox. I can sort of see it now, I've been persuaded and as someone said earlier, those could be old tattoos.

There is this sort of OCD mentality amongst some US celebs, especially the LA crowd- even if they get into something as a fad, they tend to follow it obsessively.

It's equivalent to asking a Hindu to eat beef or a Muslim to eat pork. Or a Catholic to break their restrictions during Lent.

It's a sin, I suppose, but most of them won't claim a mortal one. But asking people to deliberately sidestep religious restrictions so angry people on the Internet are satisfied is probably not a good idea.

In all the years that BB has been on this is the first time that someone has they're own fridge of kosher food .

Jews are not all photocopies of each other. There are different levels of observance. it's not even as clear cut as "Reform, Conservative, Orthodox"--it's like any other person of any religion where they have different levels they stick to based on family history, their religious leader, their life history, etc.

I've read a few things over the years about celeb BB and what some celebrities demand, some of them quite ridiculous. I wish I could remember. I know you're just going to say that means there wasn't any, but honestly, there have had some corkers- you can probably still find some of them online if you're interested. I seem to remember one celeb demanding their own toilet, or that the toilet be cleaned to a specific degree, and some even more ridiculous ones.

Right. That's why you used the word "demand". Because it indicates no real opinion at all on the matter.

If someone demands a mini-fridge filled with Champagne, that's ridiculous. Or if like the rock and rollers they have long contract riders, asking for M&Ms in bowls only of certain colors, certain arrangements of flowers, only a certain brand of toilet tissue, etc. Those are diva demands.

Keeping Kosher is not ridiculous, if the person truly has those beliefs. Nor is a Hindu keeping away from Beef, a Catholic keeping Lent rules, etc. It's not diva behavior or really a "demand" to ask this. It's a reasonable request.

It's shocking to me how ready people here are to act like this is some kind of special treatment--some kind of wild unreasonable thing. It seems like an underhanded way to cast shade on someone on the show just because she happens to be of a religion you don't approve of. And if that's NOT the case? Why make such a big deal over it? Just be happy she's a porn star and cast shade on her for THAT. Isn't that enough?

I don't think I was suggesting Jenna was being ridiculous there, I actually thought I was defending her more than anything by basically making the point that it's likely many of the celebs on the show have demands and such has been reported before.

That's very true. There must have been Jewish contestants in BB before. Lots of Jews work in TV, Film etc.

I was referring more to Paace and a few others upthread, who seem mighty angry about this (or if not angry, seem to be awfully focused on demonising Jenna as some kind of unreasonable Diva for asking for something totally reasonable).

Not so many in the UK though.

If we dig through the list of US celebs, since many of them are L.A. nutters, I bet we find more Kabbalists than actual Jews (if anyone needs the difference to be explained, we can go into that).

I also accept that Judaism like any other religion has differing degrees of observance and I accept that the Orthodox, reform, conservative, ethnic etc is a very broad categorisation that isn't very meaningful in real terms. But I do feel there is an inconsistency about someone who seems to have adopted quite conservative even orthodox dietary observance but seems anything but conservative in other aspects of life such as modesty for example. I am respectful of any heartfelt belief but suspicious when it seems to involve such massive contradictions of behaviour. SO I think Paace makes a fair point.

hellsTinkerbell was worse then--stating basically that the belief wasn't important enough to be imposed upon the show (that's a minor bit of paraphrasing but only a hair, just to account for the number of posts it was discussed across).

As for Paace, the point at least SEEMED to be that "nobody else has had this done for them". I don't think it was a stretch to think that meant that poster meant it was excessive to accommodate this. if that't not what Paace meant, you have to admit it was phrased in such a way it seemed like it probably did.

As for how it seems to jibe with the rest of Jenna's life choices? I think it's fine to question those life choices, but there's no link to her Kosher status. If it's a contradiction, it's not the show's business to make that judgment about her. And to be fair, they haven't. Just people here have.

Isn't that the point of BB though. Don't we all watch to see the onion like nature of human beings unpeel?
