I thought I'd do a track-by-track review since this album deserves it.
Thunder - Fantastic opening track to the album (even if FUMF may have worked better). The lyrics build up some great images and I can understand why it lead the campaign in the US. Leona sings with such conviction on the chorus especially.
8/10
Fire Under My Feet - This is definitely one of the anthems of the album. It has all the makings of a brilliant comeback track but I do feel the mastering/production slightly lets it down with the "quicksand" burp but that's just nit-picking.
8/10
You Knew Me When - As someone else has pointed out before, this is Leona's 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength'. I can see this being covered on numerous talent shows by diva wannabes. Leona is sounding brilliant on this. I'm relieved this isn't one of Diane's more cheesy ballads.
8/10
I Am - This took a while to get into but now I finally appreciate its beauty. I wouldn't say it is anywhere the strongest track on the album but it's got some glorious moments.
7/10
Ladders - If ever Leona collaborated with Disclosure, this would be the product. It's got 'Latch' written all over its instrumental. It's an odd song in the sense its got a jolly instrumental yet Leona sounds quite melancholic. As I've said before, it's definitely an asset in Leona's discography due to its originality.
8.5/10
The Essence Of Me - Enchanting, Magnificent, Epic, Cinematic, Inspirational, Spiritual - all words that describe this. My absolute favourite on the album. From the stunning lyrics and the tribal backing to the conviction of Leona's vocals. AMAZING.
10/10
I Got You - Like 'Outta My Head' and 'Glassheart', this is the hit of the entire album. If Def Jam/Island don't release this as a single with a huge promotional push... I just can't even think about that possibility.
9/10
Power - I don't think I've ever had such an emotional connection to a Leona song like this since 'Happy'. How she sings the second "power" in each chorus just gives me absolute chills. The emotional choruses contrast extremely well with Leona's ice-cold delivery in the verses. The middle-8, while not being a fan of it at first, I can now appreciate it's futuristic/fantasy effect. It reminds me of "funny how time flies" from 'Favourite Scar'. Anyway, this is like a sequel to 'The Essence Of Me'.
10/10
Another Love Song - Definitely the most up-tempo song on the album and while it may be one of the strongest single options, I wouldn't say it is necessarily one of the strongest songs.
7.5/10
Thank You - Such an emotional dedication track to Leona's parents. When I first knew of the subject matter before listening to the track itself, I was worried this would be high levels of cheese. Luckily that's not the case. Some truly beautiful lyrics and I can now understand the comparisons to 'Stay'. What a beauty.
9.5/10
Thick Skin - This weirdly feels like the sister-track to 'Thunder' lyric-wise. I can really see this being on
Glassheart which isn't such a bad thing.
7.5/10
The Best And The Worst - This seems to be the only track I forget when trying to recall how each song of the album goes. It's a really good deluxe track but then at the same time I can see why it was only a deluxe track.
7/10
Best Tracks: The Essence Of Me, Power, Thank You
Album Rating: 9/10

And through doing this, my album has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
