Would love to see "superstars" like Rita Ora, Cheryl Cole and Jessie J accomplish that feat lol.

Fans have been waiting a long time for the new album. I hope they tour the UK soon, they are excellent live

5th straight number 1 US album..... Who are Disturbed? Actually, maybe ultimately I am for not knowing. We'll see... Investigation required.

Glee Cast - most top 75 hit singles in one year (45)

I'd like to see Disturbed do that!

(Point is, records don't equal "superstardom")

The problem is Disturbed are the rock/metal version of those artists you listed - awful. Their new album is one of the worst reviewed albums of the year.

I'd rather have no rock music in the charts than purile crap like Disturbed representing the genre to be honest.

They are all covers though aren't they? My point is Disturbed are more successful than the artists I mentioned.

I am not a big fan of Disturbed but a band who write their own songs and play instruments who have that kind of success deserve credit.

Even if the music is crap?

I wouldn't call it crap. Maybe an acquired taste. I know the UK is anti Rock/Metal because:

A) It's non conformist and doesn't pander to commercialism
B) Because America has taken over Rock music and the UK can't handle that because they invented it and now declare Rock to be dead, not in America it isn't.
C) Americans do a better job of Rock than the UK ever has.

I'd love to see you try and play a Disturbed song on guitar. Then we'll see what sounds crap.

I'm not saying they are crap, I've never even heard of them, I'm going off people saying the reviews are terrible for it.

And yes I would be crap at playing one of their songs. Firstly because I wouldn't listen to one of their songs to learn it and secondly because I've never picked a guitar up in my life. That they would be better than me isn't something to praise them for.

I wouldn't say they are crap, they have found their sound and stick to it.

Some Rock & Metal fans can be very picky with their bands and will complain Disturbed's albums sound the same and yet other bands who do change their sound get slated for 'selling out'

Unless you are a huge band with a faithful following, changing your sound can mean an album flop. Disturbed has stuck to their guns an produced a number 1 album after a 5 year gap. Not an easy feat.

So in other words, all criticism of them can be written off as illegitimate.

A. Yeah it really is commercial tat.
B. Wrong America 'invented' Rock music. Also rock music is as much in decline in the US as the UK - look at the US album chart for example - maybe 5 rock albums?
C. Really? Zeppelin, Floyd, The Who, The Stones, The Beatles, Queen, Sabbath - who can match or better that list from the US?

Is Disturbed the right answer?

The US has a pretty strong legacy for rock music too, laying the groundwork for a lot of the acts you've mentioned there. Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis etc. all pioneered and then the Beatles, Stones etc. evolved the genre. I think people underrate the Beach Boys a lot too.

But I digress, Disturbed are shite.

Yep that's why I said America 'invented' (his choice of word not mine) rock.
But when you think of great rock acts, most people will list the likes of Zeppelin, Floyd, The Beatles etc....first*.

*Well maybe second behind the mighty Disturbed obviously

I am sorry but that is complete nonsense. The UK mainstream media is certainly against Rock and Metal, but then to be honest they always have so no change there. But Rock and Metal acts still sell out venues all across the county.

In general terms, again, I would disagree. If you look at the number of bands that have had Top 20 albums in the UK over the last couple of years or so it is very long list. Bands like Within Temptation, Nightwish, Royal Blood, Black Stone Cherry, Steven Wilson, Shinedown, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Halestorm, The Temperance Movement, Rival Sons, and that is off the top of my head there are plenty more.

Oh yeah, I just thought all of those acts were worth a mention because they seem to me to be under-appreciated/forgotten compared to some of the British bands.

Check out the BBC documentary Rock 'n' Roll America. It covers the whole era really well.
