Bacon and Cheese turnovers

Just curious to hear if people have any tweaks for making these.

Generally, I spread the bacon out on a plate and microwave it for 20-30 seconds to get rid of water, then after I roll it up in the puff pastry with the cheese I give the ends a good brush with egg wash. I'm basically trying to avoid having chewy fat in the middle and burnt ends where the bacon sticks out.

Meat and cheese is a disgusting combination in any form.

In your opinion, you mean. Ham and cheese is a classic combination. Bacon and cheese is a bit rich for my taste, but is also very popular. Millions of people love cheeseburgers. And so on.

However.. Exodus 23:19

Bring the best of the first fruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God. Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk.

which in Judaism expanded into kashrut dietary laws and a general prohibition on mixing meat and dairy. AFAIK other religions don't follow the same rules, but a lot of dietary laws are based on some common sense stuff, like Hindu's not eating their ploughs or Jews and Muslims avoiding foods that would spoil easily. Suggestion on that one is it's part anti-cruelty, and part practical. So let kids grow before eating them & eat the nanny when she stops producing milk.

But that aside, bacon + pretty much anything rocks & last time I made turnovers, I pre-cooked the bacon a bit because I tend to like it well done.

I don't know if it's called a turnover but I like the types you get from Greggs and other bakeries.

For making at home you cut a square from some rolled out puff pasty and set it down in a diamond shape then lay on the bacon and cheese and bring the two sides up.

It means you get a nice cook on the bacon as well as the pastry.

ETA: Greggs call it a wrap

Yep that item from Gregg's is exactly what I'd call a bacon and cheese turnover, and the picture illustrates the problem. The bacon in the middle isn't cooked as much as that poking out the ends.

I don't mind that. Gives a nice change of texture.

Is that a typo?

Nope

A cow in it's non-steak/mince/sausage form is a source of milk/butter/cheese and the dung can be used as well. Stick a harness on it and it can also pull a plough.. which one cannot do with a sausage. Basically don't eat useful livestock unless you're really really desperate
