Does anyone buy Kraft singles? I haven't bought them in 25 years, but recently looked for them in all the big chain supermarkets and there's no sign of them. The only big brand seems to be Dairylee, with most processed cheese slices being own brands.

I fancied making a McDonalds-style cheese burger recently, and the weak link was the Aldi cheese singles. They taste OK, just not like the ones in McDonalds. Searching the web suggests the closest match in this country is Kraft Singles but have they been discontinued or something?

I'm not interested in healthy or artisan cheeseburgers. For one night I would like to make my own burgers (home made rolls and mince) with cheese that tastes like McDonalds.

Can't answer your specific question apart from that mysupermarket lists them but no store has them in stock

but I find the processed cheese slices a much of a muchness from where ever you get them from.

Saying that, I don't buy the brand names as why pay more for the same thing?

I'd stick a Dairylea slice on top, not the worst processed cheese slice, creamy too. Like degsy says, processed cheese slices are fairly alike.

Creamy is the problem. The cheese slices in McDonalds remain rather solid and taste different. The slices in Aldi and other supermarkets turn very liquidy and drip out of the bun when heated, and are very creamy.

They're what I usually use, but I was hoping to find something more like McDonalds. Apparently there is a brand in America that tastes just the same but they're banned by the EU and even in the US they're not legally allowed to describe them as 'food'! Shame I don't know anyone in America who could post me some, they sound exactly what I need

Oh dear. If I make a burger, I would want it as far away from the taste of Mcdonalds as possible. i like to taste my food, now that I can.


i have not used Processed cheese and I use the word cheese in a very loose way, for a few years. I had a look around the net and while kraft singles are still on Kraft web site, in fact I never realised until having a look for your singles that Dairylea belongs to Kraft, which is maybe why Kraft singles is not available any more.

I also noticed that Kraft and Heinz are now the same company, not that I buy anything from Heinz and very little made by kraft if I can help it.

Anyway, i think you are out of luck with Kraft Singles, have you tried some of the budget cheese slices, or maybe Aldis?

Just had a look on my supermarket and all 13 supermarkets they compare don't sell them so I would guess they are no longer available in UK.

Iceland do various sliced and grated cheeses you could pop on your burgers...I prefer to grate some mature cheddar.

I buy the Tesco cheddar and Scotch bonnet pepper cheese slices to put on burgers.

I had my first MD for 30 odd years a few weeks ago, it will be the last one as well.

I'm sure you can find burgers of this type in many supermarkets, frozen in their boxes and ready to pop into the microwave.

Kraft singles are hardly a distinct conoisseur product.

Just buy the shop brand (eg Aldi/Lidl/Tesco) and they'll taste much the same.

Not that I had any for a while, but you are wrong, they do not all taste the same.

As far as I recall processed cheese slices have very little taste in any case.
If the OP just wants one to lob in a hamburger, they'd probably be much of a muchness imo.

I know it might sound strange but think Waitrose Essential Cheese Slices (processed chesse) are the closest I can get to Mcs slices.
