When Anton had the gorgeous Laila, he didn't do much good did he. We can only imagine if she had been given a better pro what she would have been able to accomplish. (Yes, I know that rumours of lazyness surrounded her, but I wonder if her attitude would have been different if her pro had been someone like Artem, Alijaz or even Pasha. Though None of them were on the program at the time.)

Are people for getting that Anton had Fiona Fullerton a few years ago? I know she wasn't anything to write home about dance-wise and had a tendency to forget parts of the routine, but she was hardly awful either.

They did, I think, come 4th - and that's not too shabby, given they were up against Ricky Whittle and Ali Bastion (both very strong dancers) and the juggernaught that was Team Cola.... I wouldn't have thought they could have hoped to do any better to be honest?

I think they have an idea of who they want to put together well ahead. It's my guess they use the meet and greet to explore those possibilities and the pros and celebs may have a fair idea who is likely, but I don't think they know for sure until the reveal. Didn't Lisa Riley say she was 'meant' to be with another dancer (Artem?) and then the producers saw how well she and Robin got on at rehearsals and switched them last minute?

The celebs go for dress fittings well before the meet and greet, I think - maybe as soon as they sign up?? - and I don't think the pros get involved at that stage. We often hear that changes are made in the week before the dance.”

BIB - Yes that is true. I was on SCD cruise and producer said that they sort out the pairings in advance but they did change Lisa / Robin right at the last minute due to the rehearsals for group dance. I do think the initial pairings were actually fine as Fern would have been far better with Robin and Lisa could have handled the more demanding Artem.

As ever, it took AGES to film. Got there at 9.30am got home at 1am.

This year is a very good looking line-up. They all looked fantastic.

The two song acts are Jess Glynne and Gregory Porter. Poor Gregory needed an autocue for his words, and the BBC could only provide a faulty one that kept blacking out. Had to record that 3 times. But the upside was the we got to see Brendan's dance 3 times.

Otlile seems to prefer to be called Oti (pronounced Oh-Tee). She, Gleb and Giovanni look great. Claudia calls Gleb the "physically repellent Gleb" and Anita went all unnecessary when she was paired with him.

The group dance was filmed in one take (better than the professionals) and there were no obvious duffers. Hard to watch them all at the same time, but the stand-outs for me were Anthony and Jay.

Jamelia already put her foot in it by saying there were pros she didn't want to be paired with. Probably just an in-house joke between her and Brendan, but she forgot that the 10 million viewers won't be in on this joke.

Helen George really does talk like that in real life.

The People's Strictly contestants were there, in the front row. Hugs and kisses from the pros all evening.

The surprise of the evening was Tess. Not only did she have a lovely dress, she was actually really good. Very professional. Only one tiny slip up in her lines, which she redid immediately. When I think of the endless retakes with Bruce............

The stars get chauffeured limos to and from the show (the cars were all waiting outside the door at the end). But Robin Windsor had to come on the train, with me!”

Thank you again for the recap
Oh dear. ...poor jamelia...I'm sure that she was probably joking ....this isn't going to do her any favors and I'm sure that most people will take it the wrong way . ....sigh....

Yay I'm so glad that Anthony has some dancing ability. ..which means that hopefully Oti will be around for a while.
Jay too. So happy for Aliona .

It would have been interesting if Laila hadn't crashed and burned so very hard in the quarter-final when she turned up completely underprepared and bombed both dances.
Chris had a good night of it, but if Laila had pulled herself above him on the leaderboard (not impossible based on her previous scores and performances) the end of the series could have been very different.

I expect its quite difficult to dance with someone who has racially abused you.

I mean I'm just happy picturing Ainsley and Natalie's Latin, but as you were.

Also, the problem with series 7 was that the two best dancers (Ricky Whittle and Ali) had little personality, the next two (Zoe and Jade) had little popularity, then there were those in the middle of the road (Chris, Laila, Sonia, Phil, the other Ricky) who had less dance ability (some more than others) but lots of personality/popularity (again, some more than others) who were bound to do well because of it. And then there were the others. And then there was Craig Kelly.

I thought Robin said that he originally had Victoria before the producers decided to change to having him with Lisa?

I'm sure we had a number of fake spoilers that year, one of which suggested that Robin had Kimberley. That would have been... interesting.

I think that if she had been with someone more likeable to her, she could have been much better ie 2nd or even winner. To me her attitude became increasingly worse and I thought it was due to the fact she could not stand Anton (for obvious reasons).

And I think if the pairing had been more successful she would not have that happening.

Indeed!

Actually Jade had quite a following, it was her injury that prevented her to progress. Otherwise I think she would have made the final.

Possibly, but given that she'd already been in the dance-off in week six, she'd have been maybe third at the very best?

Yes, you are right. But who knows, she could had been the first celeb to have been in the dance off and win it, like both Abbey and Caroline.

Katie Derham has tweeted the Outlander community to ask for their support She has followed them on twitter for quite a while

The Radio Times has recently run hero online competition where the winner (Sam Heughan) beat the likes of Aiden Turner and Ricky Gervais.

Who, what I hear you cry

Sam Heughan has a major role in the series Outlander which is shown in the UK on Amazon Prime to a fraction of those who watch BBC.

And he got more votes than Alden Turner of Poldark fame!

He got 16 million votes!

Outlander fans are loyal and will vote for their own.

Katie Derham is one of them.

She could do very well on Strictly, very well indeed!

I think there were very specific circumstances that led to Abbey and Caroline managing to win despite being in the dance-off, and in 2009 I think Chris & Ola were steamrollering all others in the public vote and nobody could do anything about it.

Oh, how much that'd amuse me.

To be fair, if the almost impossible happened and Katie & Anton made the final, I can see some people voting for them just to get Anton a win after spending more than a quarter of his life (...wow...) on the show.

Watch what you're saying now! They'll be on you like a ton of bricks with that sort of talk here....

In seriousness though Katie seems an elegant woman, I remember she did a conducting competition some years ago but I can't remember if she looked particularly rhythmically gifted or not.( Not that lack of rhythm ever stood in the way of many of the professional conductors I worked under!)

If she carries herself well (and can remember the steps) the ballroom should be good to watch. If she's really gifted who knows. Should the dances fall well and the Jive, Samba and Salsa are out of the way early......
