Impressions of a Brazilian viewer...

1. It's not really USA vs UK .... it's basically USA imploding because they are playing the *unreal* (watch this american series, it's amazing), weekly, conflict-laden Reality Show game which they are so used to. They are working under the "every day becomes a week when edited" assumption, and they're trying to give the editors material... It obviously shows their previous experience with the media, and the public.

1b. They don't really know the GBP.

2. The UK group is just watching the implosion, and not getting involved.

3. Natasha sleeps.

4. The level of crassness in the americans is bothering me.

5. Certainly Daniel was coached by his brother on how to coexist with the UK people in the house; it shows. Scoop showed he had prepared himself for the show. They are just watching the others rob the air for the first weeks.

As a Portuguese-sister, I wholly concur!

That's a very interesting observation.

It makes you wonder how the UK celebs would come across if it was a reverse situation and they were appearing in an American reality show which might function very differently from what they are used to.

Let's face it. The UK celebs wouldn't get within sniffing distance of any American reality show. They're fighting tooth and nail as it is just to stay relevant on this side of the pond. Poor buggers.

Very good post OP. I'm also not British (or American) and so I'm finding it difficult this year to relate to the show.

I also feel like they've purposely picked the most vile Americans to represent team US of A! Some have redeeming qualities, but most don't.

It's a shame because I usually love the Celeb version of BB UK. I find it more normal than the non celeb BB!! I think it's better when it's a mash up of people and not this UK v USA. I'll stick it out for another while but I find myself watching on catch up and fast forwarding through quite a lot!!

I'd be interested to hear what native Brits think. Do you prefer this version or they way it was before?

It's just 'British audience', Dowling brought the hackneyed GBP phrase along with other annoying things.

I think there's a simpler explanation - all the US reality stars were on programmes produced by Viacom. Viacom now owns Channel 5.

BBUK is my favourite format of the show (from the ones I follow, since I don't know Hindi, or Phillipino, or Albanian, etc...). I love some of the aspects, especially the technical ones, like image capture (it's so beautiful and cinematic), the (once-followed) rules such as no nominations talk, and the sheer oddness of most housemates. YMMV, but it is an interesting window into aspects of British culture which we don't really have access to, internationally (due to the scope, since all of Britain gets mashed into a single identity in most media outlets here). I love seeing Scotts, and Welshpeople interacting. I love trying to decipher the accents, even in ch. 5's decidedly mumbling seasons.

Granted, there has been much change to the British format, and channel 5 really spins it in a game-show direction, but it still is so entertaining (at least to me). I posit the theory that, since I don't get the barrage of media, journalism and water-cooler conversations, I tend to focus on the narratives of the episodes themselves, which allows me not to carry much "passion" for the housemate's previous life-stories, and I react basically to what I see, not caring much for other aspects apart from the emission (which, btw, i get from torrenting).

so there :ˆ)
