TV - SKY - VCR - DVD Player
I've recently gone out and got myself Sky but cant seem to get my VCR to record programme on Sky.
My TV has no SCART so is connected through an AV-SCART cable to the Sky box. The DVD Player has 1 SCART as does the VCR. Any ideas how I connect all them together? I have been looking at getting a DVD Recorder, would this make it any easier? |

I would buy a second hand telly with a minimum of 2 scart sockets. You should get a decent 25 inch 4:3 type for less than £50 with a bit of luck.
Or save up for a new widescreen set of course. |

your vcr's scart socket should go into the vcr scart on the sky box which will enable you to record sky on the vcr's av/ext channel.
not sure about the dvd player though, what connections does the tv have? aerial and yellow/white/red sockets? |

I'm not going to get a new telly, as I've recently got myself a 17" widescreen tft.
The telly has S-Video, Aerial and yellow/white/red sockets. |

And I presume if I was ever to get a DVD Recorder, I would use the same setup, just removing the VCR and replacing it with the DVD-R.

Right. I've been out and got myself a S-Video cable and that side of things is working great. But still can't seem to record Sky.
I've got the setup as follows: Aerial ---- (RF) ---- VCR ---- (RF) ---- TV VCR ---- (SCART) ---- SAT ---- (SCART-AV) ---- TV I've got both SKY and the VCR coming through the VIDEO channel on my TV, the VCR is on the 0 (AUX) channel and SKY is on anything random... So what've I done wrong? Do any other settings need changing, e.g. on the SKY box? Last edited by barella : 17-04-2005 at 17:29. |

if your vcr is set to the aux channel then it should be recording anything that sky is showing, is that the only av channel on the vcr?

Yup, only one AV Channel. But can't check that it's picking up Sky as when I turn on the Sky box it "overrides" the video with them both coming through the one VIDEO channel on the TV.
This is really puzzling me! |

you should be able to manually tune the vcr into a spare channel on the tv then switch sky on, put the tv on the channel that the vcr is tuned into and then you can change channels on the vcr and what is selected on the vcr will be displayed on the tv, you will then be able to check if the sky signal is getting to the vcr

Sorted. At first, it was recording only sound, then only picture... it turned out the SCART plugs needed pushing in a bit tighter.
Anyway thanks for all your help asdigi.
