I have recently ordered a HUAWEI DN371T Youview box, which I am hoping to use in the bedroom. Thing is, I know this box has lots of smart features such as catchup tv, which need a internet connection to work and the box uses a regular ethernet port rather than wifi.

The room I am hoping to use it in has no direct ethernet connection, therefore I was wondering if it might be possible to use a USB wifi dongle with the box? as I have heard some boxes allow this, though haven't been able to find anything relating to this specific box.

I would guess powerline is my only other option? though I'd rather not do this if I can avoid it as there are so few wall sockets in the room I would need a passthrough set, which are typically quite a lot dearer than the regular ones....

Any advice greatly appreciated.

If you can get a decent WiFi signal in the room you are using the Youview box in then try something like this.

It connects to up to four devices via ethernet and connects them to your router over WiFi.

That is just one example of many such devices. Obviously not much use if you can't get a WiFi signal, but then again a USB dongle would be unlikely to work in that scenario either.

The advantage of a device like the Netgear is that it can be mounted away from the Youview box if necessary to optimise WiFi performance. A USB dongle may be compromised by where on the Youview box the USB port is and where you have the box mounted, which may be OK for telly watching but rubbish for WiFi.

Plus of course if you have a Smart TV or other device(s) that also requires a network connection you can hook that up as well.

Another option is a Homeplug system, which lets you use the normal electrical wiring on the house to send a signal.

However I've got three pairs of them here (different makes/speeds but can all work together), and if your house/wiring is too old they're pretty useless in my experience, so although they should be easy to set up it is worth trying to borrow a pair before buying.

I can only get them to work well on the two newest rings, the extension and the Garage for our house (they're also the shortest rings in terms of cable length).
If I try them on the main rings of the house they either get a really poor connection, or no connection (from memory it's about 130mb on an AV500 set from the extension to the garage, but about 20mb from the extension to the living room).

I think the wifi is ok as my phone and tablet can both connect fine on 2.4ghz though 5ghz is very weak and easily disconnects there. I have also in the past had a now tv box in there which also worked fine and could even stream in hd without any issues. The only thing that oddly couldn't connect was a chromecast I used to have, which couldn't even detect my network in that room but was fine closer to the router, maybe chromecasts just have really lousy wifi antennas...

The OP has already said he does not want to do that due to lack of power sockets in the room.

Anyway they are bad technology that causes interference to the neighbours and other users of the RF spectrum and should never be used. Mains wiring is not designed to carry data.
