I actually added the following line to that post after you quoted it: "It'll be interesting to see if their ICC World Twenty20, ATP tennis, US tour golf and NBA commentaries will be imported from international radio stations or services, perhaps through the main station's tie-in with the TuneIn radio app."
I'm certainly expecting the NBA commentaries to be simulcasts of US radio coverage, which is something TuneIn has been majoring on over the past few months. I know IMG do an audio commentary service on major tennis events which I could see them taking, and I'm sure there's something similar in place for US PGA tour golf. Indeed the golf programme listed for the early hours of Monday morning -
The Grill Room with Bob Bubka - is actually an existing programme that Bob presents, which is produced by Tournament Radio Broadcasting LLC and goes out in North America on Sirius XM radio and internationally on TuneIn.
I imagine their Champions League and La Liga football commentaries will be done in-house in the same way talkSPORT Live produce Premier League and Bundesliga commentaries, while any domestic football, Premiership rugby union and Super League rugby league commentaries will be done on-site by their own teams as has been the case on the main station in the past and as you would expect.
The ICC World Twenty20 coverage will be interesting - I know they did their own on-site commentaries when they had rights to the 2009 tournament played in England, plus off-tube commentary on the final of the 2010 event that England won. But I could see them simulcasting an international radio service at this event, given that I haven't heard the likes of Jon Norman talking about their involvement in the commentaries on-air or on Twitter.
Indeed I spotted this within a
media release on the ICC website:
Quote:
“Fans who cannot watch the broadcasts live have the option of listening to live audio commentary on Cricket Radio, produced by ICC’s Global Audio Rights Partner, Channel 2, or on the various other official audio broadcasters – BBC & TalkSport (UK), Radio 4 (UAE), Karachi 107FM (Pakistan), Zircon (Bangladesh), SLBC (Sri Lanka), Guardian (West Indies), SABC (South Africa).”
I could well see talkSPORT 2 carrying the aforementioned Cricket Radio service - which I imagine will be a relatively "clean" feed with little/no external advertising - perhaps with the likes of Andrew McKenna and Russell Hargreaves doing a bit of in-house continuity during breaks in play and if games end early or are affected by the weather.
