Oh please. You haven't heard all the Brits trying (and failing badly) to do American accents?

Overall I find it quite endearing (if they're not taking the piss!). I find it quite sad though that they revere the monarchy more than many do here, or perhaps they're just paying lip service because they think that's the majority view ![]() Quote:

![]() The best one ever for me is John Barrowman - a Scotsman with a completely natural (and thick) Scots accent that he generally refuses to use, who lived in the US for a fair few years and then came back here to become famous...for being an American ![]() He would have been an amazing and very intriguing HM in this series in particular I think. |

![]() Let's be honest we all do shite stereotypical accents whether cockney or the queens English or brits doing LA bimbo or the deep south. They're all crap 9 outta 10 people suck at doing all accents let's be honest. Whether it's Scotland, Ireland, Welsh or English we all have generic ideals but we're are the regional accents?

I always think it's funny when people overlook the fact that people are dancing with cartoon penguins and focus on the quality of their British accent.

I thought he was truly British, but we all love an animation crossover don't we space jam, who framed Roger rabbit etc that was normal for us kids, we all wanted a dancing penguin for Christmas. Though personally I wanted a purple horse from the merry go round.![]() Quote:
I just thought he was a chimney sweep , I had no clue he was suppose to be British.

But it's EVERY American HM, EVERY series. It's not clever or funny. On launch night every American tried to do the British accent. Every time i see American's talking about Britain or British people they try and do the accent, it has become very tedious now.
Besides which. Now that I've seen the show ... It's a song, FFS. That's the way the song was sung. That's why Stevi, who doesn't have that accent, sang it with that accent. |

There are scientific papers into why pop vocals sound better in American English...basically it's the resonance and whatnot. Elton John, Freddie Mercury...they all did/do it. Apart from distinctively British Indie bands it's meant to be a natural way to make it sound better.

The only regional accent Americans probably know is cockney, most don't go beyond London I suppose.
It's because it's such a strong accent. Same reason when so many Brits think they "do" American accents, it's Southern. |
