Possibility of Talking Pictures TV coming to Freesat 15/9/15.
Having just read this thread, I have a feeling that Talking Pictures TV might be coming to Freesat around the 15th of this month.
They originally stated that they were coming to Freeview, then this was withdrawn and replaced with a statement that said that they were coming to a new TV platform, but that they were unable to say which one. They say that it's good news for those without Sky, so i'm speculating that if it isn't Freeview, they may have meant Freesat. As we know, some people confuse the two and use the terms interchangeably. For a fledgling channel, I would imagine that Freesat would be the cheapest way to increase their reach. Of course, it may simply mean that they have had their nuckles rapped by Freeview for announcing the news prematurely! http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2099240 |

Possibility of Talking Pictures TV coming to Freesat 15/9/15. I'd say "very possibility"! Let's go look directly into the horse's mouth so to speak and see what they are saying: Quote:

I'd say "very possibility"! Let's go look directly into the horse's mouth so to speak and see what they are saying: That's good and positive news. I'm not sure where they'll end up though - general entertainment or films - since they show drama series and one-off dramas as well as films. |

My Foxsat only updates overnight during housekeeping so will not know till tomorrow.
I've read elsewhere that Talking Pictures were given a licence to broadcast on Freeview this morning. Would they need another licence to broadcast on Freesat, or would their existing Sky licence cover all satellite transmissions? Does anybody know if they have received a licence to broadcast on cable? |

The current licence covers all satellite and cable services, they only need a separate one for DTT.

You can add Talking Pictures TV to your Freesat box in non-freesat mode though, so all is not lost

Yes, in the meantime, Talking Pictures can very easily be added in non-Freesat mode by accessing the relevant menu options and putting in the following data as appropriate: 11671 H 22000 5/6

No and you can even use the EPG to record on the timer if its "now or next" - obviously it'll have to be set manually if not.

Are Freesat PVR viewers prevented from recording channels in Non Freesat mode, in the same way that Sky customers are prevented from recording from 'Add Channels'?
Depends on which pvr. There is no way to record non-freesat channels on the freetime units (currently only available from Humax). You can manually record non-freesat using a Foxsat-HDR. The custom firmware adds the capability to set manual timed recordings without leaving freesat mode. I don't know what's possible on other first generation freesat+ boxes from makers other than Humax. |

Manhattan boxes treat freesat and non-freesat channels the same apart from the limited "now and next" EPG on non-freesat stations,.

As it will only be an emergency back up and for a minority of FTA channels that are not on Virgin Media, I don't want to be spending too much. |
