Apparently, Talking Pictures are currently in negotiations to join Freesat before Christmas
Now confirmed by Freesat:

Talking Pictures has a FAQs page (http://talkingpicturestv.co.uk/faqs/).
In answer to "Will you be going on Freesat" they say:
"Yes, hopefully before or around Christmas 2015, sign up for the TPTV newsletter so you will know exactly when."

These two words describe, in correct English, what your saying. Please start a new thread to discuss this as not to distract from the actual subject of the this one.
Try posting using 'correct English' yourself before you start criticising others! What an idiot!

I tweeted Talking Pictures today: "@TalkingPicsTV Any chance of you guys joining freesat formally? Hope so. In May your faqs said by Xmas - any update?"
They replied: "still on the to do list "
I'm not sensing we will receive that particular chrimbo pressie on time!

Over in the "Freesat's Christmas Present" thread, a new forum member has posted a link to the FAQ's section on TP's website which states they will be on the platform by Christmas or earlier.

...but what it does do is signal their clear intention to join Freesat in due course so their Twitter statement is to be welcomed.

Was this Roger Coles?

Just been reading the Talking Pictures website, and they are now saying 2016, but you can get it in non Freesat mode if you can't wait.

I believe at the end of November sky close the launch window for dsat. They approve channels on dsat i.e. Freesat so we'll have to wait.

I've just been trying to watch "Brighton Rock" on Freesat 306.

I don't see how the people behind this channel can claim to care about old movies when the experienced is spoiled by the intrusive digital on-screen graphic.

They claim it's an anti-piracy measure, which seems a ridiculous response. By that logic, all cinemas would project a logo on the screen as well. In any case, I thought invisible electronic watermarks were possible these days. Perversely, they're creating an incentive to watch a good quality pirate copy of a film rather than their DOG-ged version.

Even if piracy is an issue, a solution that spoils the picture for all demonstrates a a cynical attitude towards films and their audience.

All prints (or their digital equivalents) supplied to theatres do have watermarking in order to trace pirated copies. That way there is a paper-trail. With TV the dog provides the link to the source. However it is not uncommon for pirates to crop the resulting recording to eliminate the TV dog which is probably why this dog is placed away from the corner and lower on the screen than normal. I agree though that It could be a little more transparent.

IMHO it is certainly no more intrusive than those of other movie channels - thank goodness the music channels (eg HeartTV/CapitalTV) or FashionTV aren't broadcasting movies

Agreed they are going against the grain regarding D.O.G.s, nearly all other movie channels have removed them, and channels such as BBC FOUR now remove them for films. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there when the channel started.

Seriously??? The dog is tiny.

I love this channel. So far, I've seen.....

Make the right noises, the horse mouth, the man upstairs, tons of trouble, carry on admiral, double confession, dentist on the job.

Yes, I agree. The DOG is unobtrusive and does not detract from the viewing experience.

Well I think it's a little unfair complaining about the DOG in this case, because part of the funding for the channel is by the sale of restored and/or remastered old films and TV series. And finally we get a channel that shows lots of films not seen on UK TV for many years so it's a small price to pay. If you want DOG free then go out and buy these restored films and add them to your collection.

If you could see the size of my blu-ray/DVD collection, you'd know I do frequently. A fact of this channel is that they show a lot of obscure films that you wouldn't otherwise know about (and therefore would not know to buy), or films that are not of sufficient merit to buy but are worth a one-off watch.

I don't see why the DOG is a price that to be paid, as you put it. It's bad enough having to put up with breaks in the films for advertising, but I accept that as the price that has to be paid for a free channel. The DOG is not an acceptable addition.

The piracy arguments don't make any sense. It is certainly disingenuous for a channel that uses DOGs to claim to care about movies.

It's good that some people find the DOG unobtrusive, but they shouldn't assume that is the case for everyone. If cinemas put DOGs on screen, there would be uproar.

Got 2 to record already, Two Way Stretch, and The Night We Dropped A Clanger, both on Tomorrow
