How much of a soap fan are you?
Questions in the thread title. Do you collect autographs? Do you know who wrote the theme tune to your favourite soap? Do you have Ena Sharples face tattooed on your bum?
I never miss episodes of EastEnders, but I don't really have much in the way of merchandise. There is an EastEnders book somewhere on my bookshelf. I have two autographs from Jake Wood and Charlie Clements who I met while at Elstree for the 25th anniversary. I would never go back to Elstree, it was just a one off. While I do love EastEnders I don't put it on a pedestal, for me it's pure escapism and I know that a lot of the time it can be drivel. I do think it has the best cast however. My colleagues were amazed at how much about EastEnders I actually know about.

Never gotten a autograph or stood out side Elstree, I think the only merchandise I brought of EE was a Tiffany Diary back in 98 when I was like 10 because she was my favorite character at the time.
The only thing I could call collecting is old Episodes, I've started getting old episodes because there so scares to get hold off, but other then that no I wouldn't call me a die hard fan as such. I've watched the soap since I was a child, I guess it stuck and never went away but I don't idolize it or as you say put it on a pedestal, I'm a soap fan who likes to chat about the soaps online but I very rarely speak about it to anyone else in real life. |

I'm more of a Corrie fan than a soap fan - can't abide any others. I'm about as big a Corrie fan as you'll meet though.

I like watching these Soaps especially Eastenders because I ihave invested so much time in watching them over the years there is a deeper layer of knowlegde which I enjoy. Of course having only watched since 2000 there is a whole half of Eastenders I know little of, obviously I know the main bits, but since 2000 I have hardly missed any, maybe apart from summer 2011 which was atrocious.

enjoy Emmerdale and Home & Away for a bit of entertainment but that's it. I'm not what you'd call a big fan - I don't have any merchandise relating to either of them and don't who the producers are for any given era etc.

I do love watching them and coming on here. I especially like reading discussions about real issues portrayed on soaps. I've never been to any of the soap sets. I don't have any autographs or soap DVDs although I might get some old Emmerdale Farm DVDs. If I see soap actors in London I'll smile and say hello but that's all. I don't have any selfies with soap stars. I've seen Lisa Riley, Michelle Collins and a Coronation Street actor whose name escapes me and probably one or two I've forgotten while reading this. Ah yes I saw Paul Trueman in Euston Station years ago.
I wouldn't consider myself a "superfan" by any stretch but if I miss an episode I do get disappointed and try to catch up the next day or at the weekend. |

I am a reasonably big fan of Corrie and Home and Away (though gave up on H&A couple of years ago). I will read or watch an interview of my favourite actors, do read the spoilers and always love to get in depth discussion about soaps on DS but don't have any autographs and merchandise or turn up to the sets or stalk the actors on twitter etc (partly because I am skint student abroad).
I do know the H&A theme tune off by heart

I am not a huge huge fan. I don't collect memorabilia or know everything single detail about EE. I haven't been to elstree centre and in some way I dont wish to because if i was coming in and out of work, I wouldn't want people pestering me for photos and autographs every day by fans. I know it comes with the territory of being a TV star but you don't see people showing up on other television sets with fans doing the same thing. So i plan on not going purely out of respect.
There are certain cast members I would love to have autographs from. As scrabbler said, the show is just escapism. |

I'm a huge soap fan but there's a lot I don't know about the history of the shows and the characters. No point in me pretending otherwise.

I try not to miss EastEnders or Hollyoaks episodes, but if I do I catch up. With Corrie if I miss it I don't bother catching up.
I do have a few EastEnders books, a Corrie 50th Anniversary book & the 50th DVD collection which I got for Christmas a few years ago. I also have autographs from Jessie Wallace & Shane Richie which I also received a few years ago too. I would say I'm a soap fan but I'm not obsessive over them or anything. |

Never missed an episode of EastEnders since our son made us watch it on Christmas Day 1986 (yes, that episode!) .. all his Oxford University friends watched EE at that time and we've been slaves to it ever since, although it has to be said most of the current storylines are sorely trying our patience!
My wife grew tired of Coronation Street several years ago, but I still always record it and catch up when she's gone to bed, so I'm bang up to date there and, if I'm honest, I rather prefer it at the moment! Never watch any other soaps, although many years ago a Yorkshire friend of mine got me watching a few episodes of Emmerdale Farm. The thing with watching soaps year after year is that eventually you forget certain characters who have long since left, even if their storylines at the time were the talking point in the office the next day! |

I only watch EastEnders and haven't missed an episode since I started watching - even in times when it was not so good. I don't have any merchandise or anything but I do enjoy people's discussions on this forum which are interesting

If I'm watching a soap, I'll watch the episodes religiously. Apart from posting on here , that's as far as my fandom goes (although posting in the episode threads feels particularly nerdy). Like Harlowe, I rarely talk to anyone about any soap offline, not because I'd be embarrassed to but because it never seems to come up in conversation. In my experience, it's stuff like Game Of Thrones that is the watercooler topic of choice.
EE is the one I'd spend the most effort in sticking with (although I've finally thrown the towel in with that now). I'd chuck Corrie and Doctors without much fuss. |

Lost interest in the ITV soaps and to be honest it's only a couple of characters and the forum that keeps me watching EE.

I've not been to the sets but I would think the people who live near them would be fed up with people hanging around in groups chattering noisily and calling out to actors. Having said that I don't know how close any residential areas are to the sets. Emmerdale doesn't look close to anywhere but is the Elstree set near a residential street?
![]() Emmerdale, the indoor sets are in the city centre, quite easy to get too. |

![]() ![]() I looked the title up on YouTube and saw a black lady singing a pop song. Is that something to do with a soap that I don't watch?
