Great Holiday Week on Eastenders... But hang on a minute
Eastenders get away was amazing
So good to see a happy ending. The best kind I think. But what about Aunt Babe? I believe in forgiveness ofcourse But we've just found out she's been selling babies? So there's tons of mums out there somewhere with ruined lives due to her and babies who aren't with their real families.. Are they really just gonna go 'oh well.. Come and live with us'? |

I did find it weird how she was forgiven so quickly. Infact I've noticed that in EE, people become angry at someone in one episode, and then forgive them in the next.
It could have been a way to get Babe back on the square. |

She was doing it for about 14 years too, before joining the merchant navy at the age of 28. Presumably she worked in the merchant navy for a good few years before retiring. She missed some payments on her mortgage so lost her home. But surely at her age she couldn't have much left on the mortgage anyway. So why couldn't she sell the house and buy something smaller? Or she could have taken out a loan using the house as collateral.

It could have been a way to get Babe back on the square. But for a way to get her back to the square, it's a weird one It's not so much the forgiveness part.. But how could you be so comfortable and friendly with them? Wouldn't you think 'let's try and find a way to get these children back ' even if it's pretty impossible |

However later I felt that Shirley was more concerned about the fact that Mick could have been taking away from her rather than the fact that it happened to any other mothers. After scattering the ashes she became closer with Mick and realised that their relationship was repairing and I felt that Shirley was thinking ''It's all fine in the end since I'm with my son, so we can forgive Babe.'' I'm assuming that the photo album was in the caravan (minus Shirley's photo) so there is no way of retracing the mothers to tell them. |

I really thought they might have written out Babes character after the last episode, I don't particularly like her character (although the actress that plays her is good at what she does!) and felt that they forgave her WAY too quickly!
If someone tried to "sell" your son - you wouldn't invite them to live with you an hour after trying to set fire to their caravan! However the Mick calling Shirley mum bit did make me go aww!

I think that it should have been Aunt Babe's last episode (for now) rather than moving her to the square.

I am glad Babe is staying on, she is an interesting character. DTC has surprised us once again as I really did think Babe was leaving.

I was enjoying up to her being forgiven. Found that completely ridiculous. We saw Shirley's reaction when she found about her selling babies. To go from that to aunt babe not only being forgiven but invited back to live with them. Ruined it for me.

She didn't try and sell mick though. She said the moment she saw him, and saw him and shirley together, she knew she was going to let the family keep him. She also said that mick being born was the catalyst that caused her to stop the whole baby selling business.
So in a way, I guess shirley forgave babe because in the end she was loyal to her family and without her making the decision to keep mick in the family, Queenie would have probably sold him. Perhaps something happened that messed up the deal with the adoptive family or maybe Sylvie had something to do we with it. I'm not entirely convinced by Babe's story that she fell in love we with baby Mick & couldn't bear to take him away from Shirley. I'm sure there will be more to it |

they weren't stealing babies and selling them though, they were 'encouraging' unmarried girls to let Babe and Queenie arrange private adoptions for their babies, all highly illegal of course and I am not disputing that they were taking advantage of girls in difficult circumstances and money was definitely changing hands, but presumably the mothers didn't have the means or family support to look after the baby themselves so what would be the point of tracing the mothers? to tell them something they already know?

I would guess that she's still not happy about it, but maybe she realises that Babe was an impressionable child, when they started, was under Queenie's influence and that eventually she stood up to her, found a way to allow Shirley to still see Mick and then got out. Whether any of the other mums would be able to forgive Babe is another matter. |
