I figured I'd create this thread for people to discuss their experiences of BT mobile.

Thursday night. Ordered with BT mobile online

Friday. SIM arrived. Activated it and didn't receive my activation text.

Today. Called BT, spoke to a friendly girl in Liverpool who fixed the issue and got my mobile working straight away.


Data.
So far so good. I'm sat here getting a pretty much full 4G signal inside my house. Speeds are good. I'm averaging 25 down and 15 up. Now this is more than enough for me when streaming videos and music.

Voice.
Call quality seems good at home. I've had no complaints from anyone today.

Billing.
BT mobile sent me a bill the day the services were activated. This bill is for a month in advance and for me it's a good thing as it avoids pro rata charges.

Overall apart from the hickup with my SIM activation I'd say I'm happy with the BT mobile experience so far.

TIP: Sign up via quidco and you'll get cashback. I got £60 as I'm on the £25, unlimited texts, calls and 20gb data plan.

Got the £10 2GB deal instead of my current EE Payg £15 2GB pack. So far absolutely no difference in performance and £5 cheaper On a phone you don't notice the single speed 4G.

On my 3G phone, you don't notice *any* 4G speed. But at £75 for the phone and £5 a month for 500MB of data, 200 minutes and unlimited texts, who cares!

No problems at all with my BT Mobile service in the 5 months that I've had it. And as I now use the mobile mostly, it's saved me £7 a month on my landline call plan so BT are paying me, in effect.

BT mobile seem to now have all customer services based in the UK recently the service has improved hugely, my mobile signal is pretty good and would recommend.

Honestly can't fault them so far. Haven't had to call customer services at yet though lol. All the benefits of EE's netowork on a cheaper SIM only deal

Yes I called then twice and got through to their Liverpool call centre twice.

It's the no tethering that puts me off...

I'm on the £20 (£5 discount for being a BT BB customer) I've been able to tether with my data without issues. I also thought it was not possible.

It's not allowed, which is different to not possible.

Is there a way to get tethering working on an IPhone with BT Mobile or is it Android only?

I'd like to know too, but sadly not sure there is without jail breaking...

BT Mobile don't allow tethering, so it's excluded from their carrier profile, you would have to jailbreak and use a tethering app.

The new data roaming add ons aren't exactly worth emailing home about!

EU - 20MB for £2, 100MB for £10
US - 20MB for £3, 100MB for £15

I don't know if this is the right thread as I'm not sure if it's anything to do with the current BT mobile MVNO on EE but whilst in the City this afternoon a scan turned up BT 4G.

The frequency confirms it falls within the 2600MHz spectrum BT bought in the 4G auction. Obviously no chance of logging on (I'm not sure what sim would be required). So is this a commercial service? If not, what are BT up to?

My guess would be running tests.

I'm told the native BT 4G signal is for BT's One Phone service. I know One Phone does 2G voice on 1800MHz but I didn't know it used 2600MHz for 4G as well.

So what's peoples thoughts of BT then?

Thinking of changing from EE

My mum and dad both switched to £10 SIM only BT Mobile contracts having been on T-Mobile contracts for some years. No complaints, same coverage (with the benefit of 4G), double the data allowance and paying less.

Overall a very good experience, you don't notice that it is single speed 4G on a mobile.

I use them for work, and they are fine. As mentioned, the same coverage as EE and unless you require tethering, then I can't see any reason not to choose them over EE (noise747 excluded of course).

Been with BT on their 20Gb for quite a while now. No issues whatsoever.

Data is excellent. Great coverage and speeds are spot on, very rare that I don't get 4G coverage.

As has been said, if you need tethering then currently that is the only downside. Hopefully this will change when the EE takeover is completed.

I'm hoping they will provide us with WiFi calling too.

Yeah, they'll stop EE allowing tethering.

I may have tethered slightly yesterday without issue..

Going back to the start of the other thread discussing BT Mobile, I think it's acknowledged that you may well be able to tether just fine - but it's a breach of contract and definitely at your own risk.

Only on some handsets, not on all.
