I've spent the last year saving up and debating which stand mixer to buy, I've found while researching Kitchen Aid seems to not come out as high as Kenwood in the reviews.
Most people say Kenwoods will last longer in the long run.

Does anyone have a Kenwood K Mix or Patissier?
How do you find them? Has it lasted ?

I can buy the Patissier model for £129 or the k Mix is £269 with a free blender worth £129.
Just unsure which to go for between the two!

Not got one myself but the Kitchen Aid is always highly recommended. Quite steep in price though.

This is a notorious debate, and everyone will have their opinion.

For me it has to be Kenwood. Mum offloaded her 1970s Kenwood Chef to me a few years ago - iconic, robust, and seemingly indestructible. I use it regularly.
Mum got a KitchenAid for herself instead and freely admits she'd been seduced into buying it for its stylish looks as seen on so many TV shows.
However, it proved to be style over substance; it was flimsy and rattling compared with the Kenwood + she had a little difficulty inserting and removing the attachments. Also while making a dough one day it permanently ruptured itself, which meant it was never properly aligned afterwards. In the end mum flogged it at a car boot and bought herself a new Kenwood!

That's our experience anyway.

Kenwood every time. My son and I both have one as did my mother.
Kitchen Aid - everything Welsh lad said - my friend's husband bought her one (she wanted the Kenwood but her hubby has to have what he calls the best of everything) and she hated it, once caught her necklace on the sticking out arm and nearlly choked her. This was the excuse she needed and now has a Kenwood

Not being funny, but who wears a necklace when using machinery, even if it is just a mixer? My mum always took necklace and rings off when baking, must of the time she used her hands, but she did use a mixer for some things.

I like Kenwood, i got a old Kenwood myself, but it is atr the end of its day. i need to buy another mixer and if I was 15 to 20 years younger I would splash out on either kitchen Aid or Kenwood, but I am looking at going for something a bit cheaper.

I know you;ve already "done the deed", but I know you will be delighted with youre choice. Kenwood mixers are not quite indestructible, but they are about as near as you can get. And they are designed to be repaired, not just thrown away.

Got my first -- a big Kenwood Chef -- in 1978 and it lasted 33 years before the motor finally blew up and set the innards on fire. Over those 33 years, amongst other things, I used it to knead 2+ Kg of bread dough at least once a week. The only thing I had to do by way of maintenance was after its first 20 years, when I replaced the gearbox as some of the cogs had worn flat.

I'm now on my second big Chef, and hopefully it will last longer than I will

I've had my Kenwood Chef for over 40 years and I still use it regularly. Recently I've bought attachments for it off eBay such as a slicer/grater attachment and a liquidiser goblet. If it broke I would buy another used one.

Not as good as they used to be, mine is about 209 years old, I got it second hand, but it is noisy and seem to have problems with dough and other stiff mixes.

My mother had a Kenwood which outlasted her and was passed on to me. It's still going strong; however a friend with a Kitchen Aid has nothing but praise for the machine and it certainly seems to flag up many 'Best Buy' awards.

Perhaps you pays your money and takes your choice.

It was not a great big dangling necklace but a small chain she has worn all the time for years and she is a very experienced baker who was new to using a Kitchen Aid.

I had a KitchenAid for just under two years and had nothing but trouble with it.
The pin at the back was constantly coming out and I was having to hammer it back in each time.
The dough hook paint flaked off and I got in touch with KitchenAid direct and they delivered me a new one. The new one went the same way. I never put them in the dishwasher,although KitchenAid say you can,I handwashed them.
The main problem I had was the speed. It seemed to have one speed which was fast.
It was guaranteed for 5 years from the shop where I bought it from,so back it went then came back worse than ever! On the slowest speed it stopped all together and made a terrible grinding noise.
I took it back again and this time it got damaged by the shop sending it back to KitchenAid to be fixed.
They offered me a refund.
I replaced it with a Kenwood KMix, in cream. And it looks just as nice as the K/A.

So far,so good.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was with the KitchenAid.
I know they are lots of people who are delighted with theirs and can only assume I was given a duffer.
After my experience,I would tell anyone to get a good long guarantee. My Kmix is also guaranteed for 5 years. I am hoping nothing is going to go wrong,though!

I have a Grundig - around the £100 mark a few years back.
It has an attachment hub at the front identical to that of the Kitchenaid, and the Kitchenaid accessories powered through its hub (eg the pasta making machine) fit the Grundig perfectly

So was my Mum, bur she never wore any bling when baking.

Is it still working? I looked at the Grundig a few months back, but decided against it.
I bet a lot of these mixers are made in the same factory.

Every now and then, Lidl do a fantastic mixer for £70/£80 with a huge bowl and a 1200w motor, enough to mix and knead anything. I think it also has a blender attachment on the top

I think when people buy Kicthen Aid, they're mainly paying for the name.

I did consider buying one from Lidl but decided to just make do with a hand blender with a whisk attachment for whipping cream, making batters, cake mixes or anything light like that. For heavier things like bread, I prefer doing it by hand because a mixer doesn't stretch and fold the dough like you can by hand.

I used to have a 300w hand mixer but using it on bread doughs wore the motor out. If I did buy a mixer, it would be the Lidl one for the powerful 1200w motor.

A whisk would not cope with a cake mix.
A decent mixer does a pretty good job with dough as long as the hook is good,k ok it is not as good as hand, but most people will not tell the difference in taste.

i prefer to do dough by hand as well, but a mixer do make it a bit easier.
Now pastry, I do by hand, I have not used a mixer to make pastry for years. i may try it with the new mixer.

The thin wire thing? I did not think they would cope with a cake mix.
I would not use it myself, I used the kbeater on the kenwood for cakes, the wisk looks a bit fragile. Ok for eggs and other liquids.

Saying that I don't have any instructions with my Kenwood and eveeything I do with it I had to work out from industrial machines I used to use.

i can;t wait to get my new machine.
