Samsung Smart Remote dead after 1 week
Just had a new smart TV.Samsung, for a week. Everything fine, except now the remote is totally dead other than the standby button. That's the only thing that works to turn it on and off. It has worked fine all week, I have touched nothing, it suddenly happened. When I turn my Humax on it auto turns on the TV and soundbar, so I can use the TV, however I now cannot change source, cannot get into smarthub, and cannot get into any settings menu or function. Every single button is dead other than the standby button.
When I press each button the sensor flashes red on the TV, so the TV is picking up the signal, but nothing happens. I have tried everything I can think of. This happened last week and I turned TV of and on and it worked, but now nothing. I cannot use any function of the TV at all other than just turn the Humax on and allow everything to auto boot up and watch my Humax. The TV had been running fine on Wifi and my Humax is not connected to the internet as there is no ethernet cable nearby. What is going on here? |

Ok, so the TV is responding to the other remote? (does that let you change the channels on the TV?)
First step is the obvious one, change the batteries in the remote for known good ones - dead/dying batteries can cause remote controls to act really weirdly as it can mean they send partial or garbled signals (the chances are the power signal for the TV is one of the simplest)*. Just because the TV/remote are "new" doesn't mean the batteries are any good, they could have been sat in a warehouse for a year or more and some batteries (especially low current ones like remote controls use) can self discharge fairly well even when sealed in plastic wrap. Also if you've recently put in any new bulbs make sure they're off - some low energy bulbs put out a lot of noise in the part of the IR frequency range used by remote controls (usually whilst warming up). Finally give the retailer or manufacturer a ring *The light flashing on the TV just means it's picked up a signal on the carrier for the remote, not that the code is valid, for example when using the "check every code" method to programme an all in one you can sometimes see the TV flashing it's indicator dozens of times before the remote hits a code that does anything (and I've seen the remote for things like VCR's and DVD players get a flash from TV's). |

I suggest you try turning off HDMI-CEC on the TV and see if that makes a difference. If necessary unplug the HDMI lead from the Humax while you are trying it.

It is brand new, why are you contacting DS instead of your dealer? Have you done something you shouldn't have?

Its not the batteries that has been done. And it is a specific problem with a pattern that is occuring when I start using the different HDMI sources.
No, no remote will speak to the TV when the TV goes into this "mode". I rectified it yesterday by switching off everything from the socket, but shouldn't have to keep doing this. It has been fine since, but I realised that my LG Blue Ray player had been left on as well as the Humax when this was going on, and I think that's what caused it before as well. The LG s plugged into HDMI2 ARC and the Humax HDMI 1. It was bought from AO so I am avoiding the inconvenience of having to return it yet. The pattern suggests to me that this is some sort of setting / amalgamation issue and not a fault. I am still learning how to use it all as the Humax and TV are brand new, but I competent with tech and when the issue presents itself, there is no way round it at all, rendering the TV useless other than the standby switch. If I was to turn my soundbar off, I would have no volume as the TV would not repsond to it, when in this mode. |

Have you tried pointing the remote control at the camera on your phone to check that the IR transmitter is firing when you press the keys?

Try going into the set-up menus of every device and turn HDMI Control off. Different manufacturers call it different things so might not be so easy to find. |

I was about to post up about this, before reading the replies, and the only bit of extra info I can give is that my TV keeps saying "Anynet Device Disconnected" every so often. It is random, with no pattern, but it does keep saying this from time to time. PLEASE educate me - what is Anynet and how the F do I disable it? Thanks in advance - virtual beers posted! |

On my Samsung you turn it off by
Menu -> Application -> Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) -> Off |
