I haven't seen the program, but I do hope Paul Morley didn't turn up spouting his usual pretentious twaddle - he usually manages to be a talking head on every program.
He did (I think)

I'm not disagreeing with you but as the child of immigrants growing up in the Home Counties in the 70's there was certainly a fair bit of it about. It's just a shame that people like Ms. Salter, and her 800+ Twitter cronies seem to wish to propagate it in 2015.
One product of the 70's that deserves to be abused [and not because he is black] is the most unfunny comedian we have ever produced - yes you, Lenny Henry.

God help us. It would have been down to The Art of Noise that the National Front were defeated then.

He wasn't there, but there was no shortage of pretentious twaddle anyway.

Mostly has-beens and never-was's.

Maybe I missed him. I did tend to ignore all the talking heads and just look up for the clips.

No? LOL, I must have confused it with another clip show I've recently watched!

This 70's TV 'personaility' seems to still be the epitome of that decade's rampant racism:

Patti Lee Salter, also known as Lee Patrick.

What a wonderfully inspirational person she really is. Perhaps not in the same league as Jimmy Savile, but another dangerously unpaletable product of seventies television perhaps?
or you could say a product of twitter .

So one person represents a whole decade of thought?

1970 Equal Pay Act
1974 Heath and Safety at Work Act
1975 Sex Discrimination Act
1976 Race Relations Act
1976 Domestic Violence Act
1977 Formation of the Anti Nazi League
1978 Employment Protection Act

My, we were despicable people in the 70's.

Contrary to your views, the 70's was the generation that woke up to the nature of discrimination in all forms, and did something about it.
well said .

Has there even been a clips program that was improved by the talking heads? I can't think of one. I always just assume they couldnt find enough clips to fill the hour and the talking heads are padding.

It would be much better just to have a voice-over.
Yes, my heart sank when Bob Mills popped up. Nothing against him personally, but all the interruptions slowed the show to a snail's pace and the choice of talking heads was so uninspired.

Especially as you kind of got the point being made about each clip in the voiceover - although as I said upthread I'm not sure if we were supposed to acknowledge the irony of the coloured wires in the plug being explained in black and white...

the bigger irony is that it's Matt Lucas , yeah he'd never black-up or do 'funny foreigner' characters !

It was soooo bad in the 70s. We'd never black up now (Paul Whitehouse as Mandela) or make sexist double entendres (Swiss Tony on The Fast Show / Julian Clary), or make fun of gays (Matt Lucas) or do jokes about the Nazis ('allo 'allo).

No wonder all the talking heads were so shocked, they've never seen anything like that recently. Well, they haven't been paid to appear shocked by it recently anyway, before this.

Actually, the worst thing they showed was the Sex Ed film.

Our TV has always been fairly mild, or ironic (I can't believe they used Alf Garnet as an example of racism, we were meant to be laughing at him, not with him).

I didn't mind the original pilot, but this seemed to be scraping the barrel. Did anyone find Spike Milligan's impression of a West Country bumpkin particularly shocking?

I also found some of the talking heads annoying, with what seemed very much like faux outrage for the camera, though one of two of them were able to give more considered and interesting opinions (e.g. Samira Ahmed).

Samira Ahmed has ruined her career as a talking head by actually saying something thoughtful and not just blurting out the first knee-jerk comment she thought of.

Amongst the purists, Milligan's Pakistani Daleks is considered hilarious, but that is because it is Milligan - if you are 'wacky' it is OK to be racist,

British, then Irish.

My mother was born in India at the same time - she is British,

Agreed. How he has the cheek to complain about racism is beyond me; he perpetuated stereotypes of black people in his early days as he prostituted his way to recognition.

This is the answer that the actor gives whenever it's mentioned now, but a lot of people were laughing at his lines as they represented their views.

To be fair I think he's said on several occasions that he regrets doing the likes of The Black and White Minstrel Show now.

What have Pakistani daleks got to do with it? I think they might have showed that clip on the pilot show, and you cab argue whether it is or isn't racist, but it's got nothing to do with the point I was making.

They showed a clip of Milligan playing a bumpkin, with a West Country accent, and I think we were supposed to think this was an offensive stereotype. I can't say I was particularly shocked.

I don't remember him on there, but he should be shot for the debacle that was Chef.

Caroline Lee-Johnson was rather scrumptious though.
