I'm feeling the same about Katie. The face pulling was really irritating. I actually think she's faking this outgoing personality which is why it's coming across weirdly.

I agree yenston. She seems tense and fake to me. And I reckoned her to the be the second worst of the women, from the get-go, and still think that's true. She may be leagues ahead of Judy Murray in ability but certainly not in likeability.

He's a poor dancer and even worse teacher.

The only pro worse than him is Janette.

The for and against Anton!!! I am not a huge fan, but for heavens sake let us give him and Katie a chance. I will keep a totally open mind, unlike a lot of people on this thread!

Katie came across as very irritating last night, can't see her lasting unless she tones it down a bit

Maybe not everyone thinks the same as you? I thought she came across as very lovely.

Fortunately, I suspect there are still enough people out there who watch the show and cast their vote on the actual dancing. On that basis from what I could see last night you might be irritated for quite a long time.

I don't think he does, and I think that is more to do with him a lot of he time than his partners. The others Pros are better at disguising their weakness in Ballroom/Latin if the opposite is their strength, but he is one of the worst Pros at masking his lack of ability in Latin, so I never have hope that he can teach his celeb to the full potential. Granted, there are a couple other Pros that have weakness in the either the Latin or Ballroom disciples, but their lack of skill still tends to appear less (regardless of whether actually is) than his. I know people comment on Janette a lot not being skilled enough, but she seemed to get away with it last year because overall she's clearly good at dancing so maybe comes across a bit better at impersonating the dances, whereas Anton is so bad at trying to impersonate Latin overall (he usually looks as good as an average celeb, sometimes celebs look better). Btw I like Anton as a personality and a Ballroom dancer, but overall his dancing isn't enough to take someone far, unless people vote for him on other reasons.

I'd like for them to go far, I'm a fan of Anton's and would like to see him and Katie do well but my first thought was that he'll have to do better in Latin and not just turn to comedy routines for her instead. First impressions for me makes me think she could go quite far but it does depend on how Anton plays it.

I'm sure Anton will look after Katie very well, he is an excellent teacher.

I know there were a number of issues with Laila Rouass when she was in Strictly but I strongly remember in a VT for one of their latin dances (back in the days when we actually saw training footage in the VTs instead of unfunny comedy skits) and Anton was standing there saying, "This is rubbish," clearly meaning the dance itself, not the quality of the dancing. I always felt Laila could have been good at latin if she'd had a different parther. As it was, I think Anton's attitude killed any enthusiasm she may have had for the latin... perhaps that's why we don't see training footage anymore.

On the contrary, Antons dancing skills are very wide ranging, he can cope with anything thrown at him.

Never underestimate Anton, his experience and dancing talent are second to none.

I don't know where this is a link to, but my comments stand for themselves.

I would love him to win three.
I wanted Ainsley to be the first older black bloke to win #yearofthecook (you heard me quite clearly) but #yearoftheAnton would be very fine.
Have been rewatching his routines with Lesley and would love him to do as well.
What with Helen's diss that she thought she'd be getting Anton and Katie describing him as a "guilty pleasure" I would like him to go balls out (not literally) and knock everyone dead (not literally except perhaps the orange overlord). <this was a joke before all the borange acolytes waid in on me.
Actually bar Peter Andre doing Captain Jack's pirate paso from Ryker DWTS, I would relish Anton doing a paso to Make a man out of you from Mulan. Katie could be cross dressing, they could do a gay matador-off, she could end up being revealed as the cape at the end with some kind of drop down dress and he could have a makeover oriental style for extra racist furore. Not that I've been giving it much thought you understand.

Tis a jive with Laila always used as exhibit A as he has avoided the jive subsequently, but as a more knowledgable poster points out on another thread (dancing queen I think) she loses time first and he tries to get her back on track/cover for her? (I cannot see the vid as it is not available where I am).

Rarely have I enjoyed reading a post about Anton as I have yours Beyonce, thank you, I am going to read it again now to savor every point.

It's used as 'exhibit A', as you called it, because Anton simply didn't dance it very well, and no amount of bias towards him will change that (believe it or not, I actually quite like him though ). IIRC, Laila did go wrong towards the end, and Anton did try to pull her back in, but it doesn't change the fact that Anton's dancing was really not great in it (namely the section from 0:34 - 0:45, where he does this weird move that makes him look a bit like a chicken ) and thus I linked it as a counter to Terry's inane comments.

Thank you so much Beyonce, its great to have an explanation that penetrates through the
fog of the jealous misleading mantra that gets put about when Anton is discussed.

Anton would always do his utmost to try and cover for any of his partners shortcomings, he is such a kind and considerate man.

At about 40 seconds in he seems to marvel that Laila can move her feet! In fact he spends much of the dance watching her as one might a child. It's hard to know if this hampers his style or if it's a defence against dancing the jive. I loathed his clothing and the baring of his slightly hairy chest (why?!?).

On the one hand I think poor Katie. On the other she might make a latin dancer of him yet. Go Katie!

Precisely. Laila could not dance on the beat or remember routines and I am not just talking about the Jive. The only time she looked OK was when they were in hold and even then she struggled. I think she was really hard to teach and it's one of those Strictly myths that she was a contender or would have got further with a different pro (they did get quite far anyway).

I'm not saying Anton is good at Latin, although he wasn't criticised when he took Lesley to the semis. He could win if he avoids the dance off otherwise, no he will never win.

Anton hasn't got the qualities like Aljaz and Pasha have got in the sense of pushing their students to do well, think anton it pains me to say can be lazy, yet the gbp love him, weird. 😒😬
