They will no doubt nominate Chris but they may think that it's a chance to get rid of a 'popular British HM'

So why weren't you upset that the Americans didn't get some sort of reward for winning the third task? Where were you crying "crock of shyte" then?

Oh, and Yanks isn't a nice word to use. Unfortunately, there's not really a derogatory word that Americans use for British (we don't seem to have the same hard feelings y'all do towards us), or I'd use it backatcha.

Good news! considering that Team USA is still a man down from Tila getting the boot. I also agree with Daniel that it should have been that way from the start where Americans can only nominate the Brits and the Brits can only nominate the Americans.

Could be a commercial decision. I would think that a VTS for all British HMS will generate more revenue than either VTS for US housemates or even potentially a mix.

Why is it offensive?

I think this is a good idea cos the Americans are making the show at the moment and we don't want to lose any of them. I really hope one of the boring ones like Chris, Sherrie or Gail goes next cos we won't even notice.

If there's no ill feeling intended, why isn't it "a nice word to use?"

You can be sure that if the British had won the task, then it wouldn't have just been them that would have nominated and that they could only nominate the American HMs. I don't know why BB don't just admit to it, because it's clearly obvious.

Do you mean it should be Yankee/Yankie? This is a word more commonly heard among Americans than about them. Yankee Stadium, Yankee Doodle, Yankee candles. In fact it is such an unfamiliar word in my lexicon that this may be the first time I have ever had cause to write it and may not be spelling it correctly.

If EnricoIV as an American feels the term "Yanks" is offensive then maybe we could all be respectful enough to call them Americans or by their individual name.

I don't mind the odd twist to keep the programme interesting, but I hate twists that effect nominations and evictions.

Is it offensive only to southerners? Were Americans, north and south, very offended by Schlesinger's film?

Well, it is. You can see that the dictionary says it's "derogatory." It falls into the same derogatory "names" that exist for many nationalities.

"Yankee" has an interesting origin. And within the US, it only refers to New Englanders )used by Southerners, and not in a complimentary manner). It was first used (according to the stories I've heard) by the British, and was used derogatorily, prior to the Revolution. The Americans took it and "owned" it, I guess you'd say. But yeah, the shortened "Yanks" used so often by the Brits and Australians, is derogatory.

Just a little education for y'all. Do with it what you will. Just know using it might raise the hackles of an American!

That's good, cause you don't know if I am or not

I can't stand all this English/American team crap anyway, each person's an individual - I personally don't represent a nation, I represent my family and myself. I haven't big enough shoulders to represent a whole country, let alone a kingdom

If any of the Americans had sat down and thought about it rationally, before getting all upset over the departure of somebody they've known a week, they'd recall that they actually nominated Americans themselves (some of them ... most of them??) and that at least one of them may have been responsible for the ejection of one of their 'team' members

Just checked - Austin, Daniel and Janice nominated at least one American. If they were really such great 'team' players as they like to suggest they are, they would all have nominated 'Brits'

Hey i am on your side, my other post was saying lets avoid the potential offense and call the HMs by their names or American/British.

The Americans are ruining the show .
Just get rid of all of them and lets start again with real people, rather than give them the right to evict others.

Good, the most boring housemates this year are on the Brits side. Chris, Sherrie and Gail could go and we wouldn't notice they'd left.

I agree and I would like all h/m's up for Friday and that would get rid of another bore.
