On a Christmas Day where viewing figures were pretty dire for everything, the Strictly Christmas Special held up pretty well with 6.49m (30.3%).

It was the BBC's top rating show in the overnights and second overall with Downton Abbey topping the day's ratings with 6.58m (28.3%) {excl. +1}.

Strictly beat Dr. Who, EastEnders, Call The Midwife, Mrs. Brown's Boys, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and everything else!!

The viewing figures were pretty dire because the programming was especially dire this year. What happened to the showcase movies that used to be shown on both ITV and BBC every Christmas day evening when I was a child). Personally Downton and SCD was the only thing I watched the whole of the day.
