If you were to be very logical about your interpretation (and your interpretation is fairly spot on) he did it for all of those reasons. But then you'd have to rank the import of the reasons in making the decision he made. So 1. votes 2. drunk 3. noms 4. goodness.
Even if you give them equal measure, he's three quarters a selfish git and a quarter not. Even at my most generous, I would say drunkenness ranked no.1. So make it 90% selfish git and 10% empathy.
My honest estimation is that it was 80% - WOAH I've got a chance to ingratiate myself with both the GB hms and the GB voters here; and 20% drunkenness.
