Do you think EastEnders is the most inconsistent soap?

I think so...

With the others, they tend to go through either really good phases (Which usually last around a couple/few months), or really bad phases (Again, a few/couple of months).

But with EastEnders, I feel it can literally be amazing one week and utter tripe the next... Does anyone else feel the same way, and if so why?

Yes, but I find it changed from episode to episode, I.e. one episode can be utter rubbish, the next it can be brilliant! I quite like it really

Last week was really good with The Ramsgate episodes & Shabnam/Kush baby story

Probably, yes. None of them are that consistent but EE definitely seems more erratic.

How could anyone find Shabnam's story boring?

Seriously, do viewers just want storylines built around contrived shocks and outlandish aftermaths? EastEnders is doomed!

It's all because of the storyblocking, if storylines were more interwoven and characters more interweaven and the show generally more of an ensemble one the good characters/stories would pick up the bad ones.

This pretty much.

The block storytelling is why it's inconsistent and pacing is dreadful.

I also agree about the lack of integration of characters and storylines, although the Lucy Beale Murder attempted it, there not really been much since, we have block weeks for certain families/characters and then they disappear for another 2 or 3 weeks, it's not good organisation or even use of characters.

It wasn't boring in the slightest, it was so heartbreaking I cried

Hollyoaks could stake a claim for that title

I was thinking that... The cast changes quite a lot. For example, you'll have one set of characters one week and a completely different set of characters the next week. Whereas, with Corrie and ED I've noticed characters appear more often. But, I've kind of got used to it.

Emmerdale would be the closest to it

I agree with this a lot. For me it good around October to Feb and the rest is just nonsense.

It can have a couple of great weeks followed by some really dull storylines and then suddenly when you have almost given up it is back on form again.

I think it was a bit bumpy until the episode where Marsden knocked on the door waiting for Ben. Since then the storylines have been great (par the Les' secret storyline taking up screentime)

Most soaps are inconsistent and it normally weighs on a scale

I find when EE is a bit meh, then emmerdale is on a high
Then vice versa. It's impossible to have 12 full months of perfect episodes and consistency.
