The Brits make us as a country look a little pathetic IMO

Is it just me? Just in the latest video with Natasha raging at the others, Chris is telling Scoop, "in our culture we don't overreact like the Americans". Things like this have been said by the Brits in the last 2 weeks about how we argue in a different way than the Americans and that we are "calm" when we argue

How are we? It's only this series where the Brits don't stand up for themselves (bar James to Farrah and Jenna). The Americans probably think that all of us are delicate flowers as a country in general These Americans should have been on BB5 or BB6, f*** me Maybe that way they wouldn't think we have no opinion. But I blame the Brits for being very "on the fence" this series.

The American's don't make themselves look good either though.

They got the worst stereotypes of each country and put them in there to shout, scream and cry.

As someone else said on another thread; from the Brits we've had Gail crying because she couldn't do the washing up and Chloe majorly 'offended' by Daniel taking a cigarette out of an open pack.

Add to this Natasha throwing a hissy because Gail didn't compliment her; Gail throwing a hissy because Chloe and Steve weren't wiping every kitchen surface as they dirtied it; Gail shouting about shit on the toilet seat while other people were trying to eat.

It's all very borderline passive aggressive; but aggressive nonetheless.

The reason why the British celebs are always so boring is that they know the show inside out. They know being loud and confrontational can damage their careers. Shilpa-gate was the watershed moment!

The American housemates are always better value as they don't give a f*ck.

Or they haven't the foggiest what the show is all about. Scoop thinks it is pulling an audience of 10 million and thought the last series with Perez pulled 5 million. Jenna seems to think its some kind of team sport akin to a game of baseball or ice hockey. They also seem to think that keeping the US flag flying in the house is within their control or power.

I have a hunch that apart from Austin and maybe Janice they haven't seen a single back episode before turning up to take part.

I wonder how the US Hms would have fared with someone like James Jordan in the house. I guarantee he'd be one of those who would constantly argue with someone like Farrah.

Ding! Ding!

Farrah and Jenna in particular seem to be 'playing' the show as USBB. I've only every seen clips of episodes of USBB; but the bits I've seen are exactly how some of the US hms this year are playing it.

Par example - Jenna's chat on the couch with Austin after Daniel's eviction. Very odd form a CBB perspective but spot on from a USBB perspective.

Zissman and Hopkins must have missed the memo.

Ah that's interesting. I have never seen the US version and I assumed it was much the same format. Seemingly not. So if I made that assumption it is very likely the US contestants have made the same assumption in reverse.

That is what I mean. The Brits know the show inside out... what to do & more importantly not to do.

Whereas the Americans haven't got a clue what they should or shouldn't be doing to look good so are far more uninhibited & unpredictable.

Yep, they are gameplaying like they do on BBUSA. It's great to see in this country people so open to take out opposition, however in this country that comes across badly. In the US, there is no public vote, the more outrageous and selfish you are, the better you will do.

I'm a million miles from an expert - but there are many on here who would watch both. My understanding is that discussion of nominations is de rigeur and they form allegiances and 'plot' against each other to strategise the win. It was really Jenna's conversation with Austin after Daniel's eviction that made me think about it. She was upset because she liked Daniel, but she was very much giving Austin the team coach talk-down.

I'm kind of fascinated and the only reason I've never watched BBUS is I feel guilty enough about the time I waste on BBUK. But from what I've gleaned on here it has quite a bit to recommend it. The main thing being, there is no baying mob on eviction night; just the interviewer, the interviewee and previously evicted hms. Imagine that, eh?

It's viewed strategically - everything; the show, the game and the outcome. No summary judgements of an entire character based on three weeks of extraordinarily exceptional circumstances.

I might just become a USBB fan in my retirement.

Zissman, Hopkins & also someone like James Jordan (who someone mentioned above) are the exception to the rule.
They want to be seen as feisty combative characters because that's the reputation they went in there with, that's what they are famous for.

That makes sense of a lot of the things Jenna in particular has said that I have found odd. It explains why she was so upset at Daniel going. I have no doubt that she liked him and would have liked him to have stayed but she will see him in two weeks. The way she reacted you would have thought he had died.

It also explains why they are so bothered about Austin having a foot in each camp. I get that it might be painful to hear a country man imply he would rather be part of a different country. However they have several times acted like his ambivalent attitude to the US is somehow disadvantaging them, I didn't understand that.

And it does indeed explain why Jenna acts like the school prefect at a hockey match and the deep conversation she was having with Scoop about who they should nom.

Most enlightening.

ETA - It also explains a comment she made which I found really bizarre. She said lets bring this home for the USA. I thought bring what home. It was as if she expected a cup.

But I doubt that any of them know anything about USBB. Considering the first season of USBB was played like the UK version, and viewers turned it off in droves (it was fine with me), so they changed it. Perhaps it's just more indicative of what American reality television thinks it ought to be. And that's the brand of American reality television they all come from.

Strange, though. The reality shows that win the awards are the shows not like that. Shows like Amazing Race, Project Runway ... ones with a different type of competition. Where you get ahead just by doing well ... not running down your opponent. Who knows, maybe they're lower-rated, though.

I think America, as a culture, is unashamedly competitive. If this wasn't US vs UK, we'd still be seeing most of the Americans talk about wanting to win. There's a reason America became a superpower in a remarkably short space of time, and it wasn't because they root for the underdog like we do. They encourage success, their class system is mutable, and they dont then knock seven bells out of the successful like our press does. Also, re TV shows, Survivor is a bigger deal in the US than BB and that starts out as a ruthless team game before the tribes merge.

I also think the US vs UK thing wouldn't be such a big deal if Jenna wasn't there. She's established herself as house alpha and Team USA coach. Without her, Farrah would be isolated, while Austin, Janice and Scoop would be mingling with the Brits and looking out for number 1. She's really the only one who's been tactical from a team perspective.

I agree. And I didn't like the spiteful way theta used their power when Bobby was leader then said its "just a joke". I noticed that the Americans (Scoop) decided not to get back at them and order them around just because they could and I like that.

It depends what you want in a show, I guess. Personally, I really don't want to be listening to shouty, aggressive people who constantly look for reasons to be offended so they can go on the offensive - very, very loudly. I'm bored by the whole thing, this is the very first bb that I've not been bothered missing (and I was a real fan of the show since it stared ). Maybe if the editing wasn't so focused on the screeching, it would give us some 'conversations' - quite, considerate conversations but, alas, I think that's never going to happen anymore. It's all about sensationalism and shock-ability. Truly boring.

Yes, I like Scoop. He's a decent, genuine guy.

Or maybe they can't be arsed to get involved in completely pointless and stupid arguments.

Oh Gosh, the day I start believing that a bunch of zelebrity cannon fodder reality stars are the representation and living embodiment of the nation I live in, I'll take myself off to a darkened room, lock the door and throw the key out of a gap in the iron barred window.

Agree. To me the Americans are coming over just as some of us expect them to, loud, foul mouthed, and quite common
