.......fanbase.

According to this article some of his fans will be going over the border to vote on a Saturday night.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/t...rish-vote.html

I have never heard of the guy but is he really the Harry Styles of his generation? How far can his fanbase take him in the competition?

And he has a huge fanbase because he has a huge...

...vocal range.

(but yes, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he makes Blackpool at least)

I don't see the harm in anyone traveling to vote for Daniel if they want to. As you know, we in the Republic of Ireland cannot vote. If members of his huge fan base want to travel over the border to vote for their favourite then so be it. It's a shame they cannot vote from their own homes but where there's a will there's a way.

I can imagine his fans circulating instructions on how to vote online from outside the UK...

I'd say Daniel is like the Irish Cliff Richard, although that's not very flattering to Cliff. Like Cliff, Daniel is a Marmite personality.

Apparently he holds a record in the UK charts. One of his albums spent 24 consecutive weeks in the charts, a record for an artist. I was amazed and would love to be told that is wrong!

In the '90's I was working in Manchester so had to drive up on a Sunday nighta dn around Birmingham was a really funny Radio show "Sunday Night Party".

They used to read out the Sunday columns by Lorraine kelly and Daniel O'Donnell under the title "dull coumnists" competing to find who could find the most boring quote.

His Facebook page reads much like his column

Well my my. I guess he's earned the right to pontificate as s-l-o-w-l-y as he'd like. Can't wait to see him take to the dance floor!

Why does he seem so much older than 53? Or maybe it's just me

He's been 53 for thirty years.

(which reminds me, god forbid Sinitta ever does this show...)

It makes no sense at all does it? I can't get my head round the idea of him being in his early 30s when he got popular in the early 90s. He seemed ancient even then.

Same here. He used to come over to Stranraer to do shows and I had no idea he was younger than me!

He's incredibly popular in both Northern and Southern Ireland.

My mum used to work at one of the theatres in Belfast as the box office manager and she hated it when Daniel was booked in for a concert there - the tickets sold out in minutes, and she spent the next week saying sorry to all the fans who didn't get one..... She said he could have out at least 3 times over.....

Never saw his appeal myself - and neither did she, especially as she used to fan girl over Val Doonican!

At least Daniel seemed a nice person and did not swing Kristina around like Iwan did with Ola.

I'm still in trauma after the 'wiggling his hips' bit during the launch show

But if his fans want to cross borders to vote for him, then good luck to them, there are certain people, should they appear, I'd probably bankrupt myself voting for

Not entirely sure my brain can cope with a rhumba between him and Kristina though

Was just thinking about Daniel shocking us all by turning out to be really good! Perhaps he secretly has a dream about being this dancers who can play what ever role is required for each dance. I would love to be shocked like that! It would be so good to see him transform into the Dance God!

The only thing is he will have to remain silent for the rest of the series otherwise it would spoil the whole thing!

I can actually see him being the "dark horse" and getting to the last 5 or 6 (possibly the final). He's been performing for years and is no stranger to following choreography - in fact if he was 20 years younger this forum would be calling him a "dirty ringah".

His enormous fanbase and Kristina's fabulous choreography suggests a potential finalist imho.

My imagination might be getting carried away here, but he could be like the 'before' in one of those makeover shows. If he's up for it, we could be in for a shock!

On YouTube he looks like a Dad Dancer no matter what song he is singing!

Can't wait to see him do his first Latin - then we'll know!
