It wasn't said in jest. He's a typical bitter 2nd rate British actor who never made it outside of the UK. This never happens with 1st rate British actors who have made it in the US. Those that have careers that span both countries know there are good and bad in every country. Still for an old man to speak so violently is pathetic, no matter what their nationality. It's something I'd expect from a kid not an older alleged gentleman. Bobby won't be making that sort of comment.

Chris is a classic bitter.

It wasn't aimed at any other hm which is why it didn't rate a BB grilling.

Not every actor's dream is to make it in America. Some even make a point of steering clear of it.

I don't know about offensive, but I did cringe. It's just all a bit too expected really.

Someone with some charisma could get away with it, perhaps without the chinning part. With Chris, it's just awkward.

I've never met anyone pursing an entertainment career who didn't want to make it and that means making it in Europe and America. What I find surprising is how many actually move here and not just from England from Australia as well. But I'm sure there are a few content to just work locally if they can pay the bills with that.

It's his seeming hatred for America and not just the hm's who are American who he doesn't like that indicates there's bitterness there, lots of it. There are loads of British people I don't like but it's far outweighed by the amount I do like. There's probably more American's I don't like than do like but I am exposed to way more American's than any other nationality on the whole.

You know he's going to go and punch the first American he sees? That's pretty sick by my standards. One doesn't take their anger at one person out on some random with the same accent, that's really pathetic, if I gave 2 shits about the guy I'd be disgusted but he's just some random whose full of hate, the world is full of them. (sadly)

It was a joke. You're taking it too seriously. Are you American? Because you're taking it as seriously as Jenna and Farrah probably would have, had they overhead.

So he's not only boring... but violent, crude and xenophobic too. What a charmer. *rolleyes*

Why is it that whenever someone (though, apparently this only applies to housemakes they like) makes a horrid comment "they're only joking" or "it's only banter?"

A horrid comment is a horrid comment.

And a horrid comment can be meant as a joke.

Was it the veins popping out of his neck or the redness of his face as he spat out his diatribe or was it the seriously angry facial expression that tells you it was a joke?

All those things tell me it wasn't a joke, that and no one laughed....

It's become obvious that you weren't watching that moment at all. You may have been listening as you turned your attentions to some chore or something, but you quite plainly weren't watching. If you had been, you'd have noticed how Bobby threw his head back in laughter, and how Chloe tried to stifle her typical posh girl giggle. The kind that says 'I shouldn't laugh at that, but it's bloody well hard!'

That, and veins weren't popping out of his neck. Maybe he did look angry, I wasn't taking much notice. But that's hardly evidence of him meaning what he said. People joke around when they're involved in frustrating situations. It's a way of coping.

He was just expressing his exasperation at the appalling behaviour of some of the american housemates.

Sure. When it's said with humor.

Chris doesn't deliver any of his horrid comments with humor. Just a snarl on his face.

I liked him well enough in the beginning (having no idea who he was), but he's shown himself to be a thoroughly unpleasant man. A real chip on his shoulder.

Good lord. Do you think those things mean he didn't mean every word he said? Not at all. It just means they're as horrid as he is, wishing they had the balls to say it, so they laughed.

You plainly see it from rose coloured glasses. There was nothing joking about his tirade. It was a bit jokey to start but it was dead serious by the end which is why NO ONE LAUGHED. Bobby throws his head back in every clip, haven't you noticed, Chloe couldn't stifle herself if she wanted to. She's too busy keeping up that fake 1930's b&w moviestar act.

If it was a joke very few got it. What I got from it is he's a pathetic old man.

That was the cause of it but he showed himself up as a bitter old man who can't tell the difference between someone he doesn't like and an entire country. Pathetic. It's not the first time he's made these sorts of comments, he says American like it's a dirty word all the time. He's clearly too stupid to know that 2 or 3 people don't represent a country of 300 million. He's got issues but it's nothing to do with Jenna, Farrah or anyone in that house.

He's a geriatric thug .
Thinks he's still DI Burnside . Idiot .
Probably still angry that they burned down Sunhill and killed his career .

Exactly. I can't believe that anybody thinks he actually meant it! It was funny, mostly by how he said it.
